no color wheel coming up

Hello, just installed the game and I don't get the color wheel. Tried fullscreen, windows, vsync on/off, colorblind mode, changed the keybinds for color wheel - nothing. Reinstalled the game, verifed game files - still the same. Any idea?

Just to check, have you played far enough through the game to unlock any colours?

I came to the first obstacle, blue rocks blocking the way to a miner who is asking to free him. Shouldn't the color wheel come up then?

Oh, how do I collect a color? Didn't see anything to react with, and clicking the action button around colored items didn't do anything either.
