Game showing controller buttons while playing with keyboard

Go into the controls in the game settings and switch that to keyboard and mouse instead of controller. That's what fixed mine

i just played both Dead Island games with controller (good thing that you barely use guns)

it did nothing for me. it was always showing controller buttons instead with some excpetions like "use U to level up your perks" while any other thing was "press E/A/B" etc

Solved the problem. We go to the properties of the game in Steam. Next, go to the controllers section. Disabling the Steam Input System. The game will display keyboard buttons instead of gamepad buttons
