Worth getting if I own the original ?
Hi there.

Been getting through my backlog and noticed I've never actually finished the original Dead Island. Then noticed this "definitive edition" exists. From what I understand, it looks better, and has a few different mechanics to it. I also can't transfer my character from the original to this one.

So, of course it's very subjective, but would you guys say it's worth starting over ? Does this version bring enough to the table that it's actually worth it ?

Thanks for your time :)

Its up to you, the definitive edition just patches some of the annoying bugs and glitches and enhances the graphics a little aswell, also adds a few other things that im not sure about,

It has 9 more achievements, although I haven't analysed what they are.

I am always thinking about getting it because I can play it again and get the reset achievements.

I can play the original again but there are hardly any achievements left for me to complete and I do like to have something to aim at while playing.

same game, no real QoLs or fixes at all. Not worth paying for imo unless on sale

Thaks for the advice, fellows. Guess I'll just play the original one, then.

IMO, with over 100 hours on both the Definitive and original edition, I find the Definitive Edition to be a better game than the original. The HD textures and better lighting greatly enhance the game, making it look and feel like a brand new game, even though it's the same game we all know and love. They've fixed some of the bugs and issues that the original had, plus brought over all the things that was good about Riptide. Alcohol and throwables now no longer take up a weapon slot, when picking up alcohol or a weapon from a container it now no longer makes it your currently equipped weapon and when picking up a snack or food, it won't default you back to your fists. There's a lot more than that but I'll save you time but not writing paragraphs! It's certainly something you should pick up, but if you're unsure then wait for a sale.

If you want to know my opinion then the original is better...Even graphic should be better it absolutely destroying many character faces (example is Jin who is looking like porn star after 30 plastic operations in 1 cutscene). Second is level system got highly nerfed so challenges are giving max 1k exp each on max rank of them instead of 100k+. Buggs are still there and is many of them. Unpatched collectible which can be accessed only by glitching into the area which is unaccesable even of the fact that banoi herald excerpt 33 is there. And I mean there is NO WAY to get this colectible in definitive edition without glitching there :). I am a big fan of Dead island and Dying light but this is much much worse than a original 1. Something different is Dead island riptide (never played original version, didn't buy in time when I could and now you can't buy it on steam as original edition of first part) but still so far I played there is much better graphic which is not glitching in faces, not destroying their faces etc., challenges are amazing and giving still lot of exp as it should be and leveling is much much faster. And overall looking is amazing. Definitely recommend if you don't have definitive edition of riptide yet :). Thanks for reading and have a nice day!

To sum it up in the simplest of words:

Mabey.

This game is not much diffrent, but has been refined allot. Its basicly a updated version, that runs so much smoother and enhanced graphics. Some bugs were fixed, and there are little downsides.
