Too funny but no where close, lol.
First time I got it on that PS3 and I was digging it xD
Then replayed so much because I wanted to get modded weapons, replay the story, etc
Good times.
Now i'm replaying on PC xD
And i'm still not bored, though tbf I did leave this game for a fair bit until I stumbled on it again, and I regret doing so
Everyone has their own opinions on each game. I have played both quite a lot (Riptide on PS3 more than this since it was all I had for a while) and both are pretty fun games. the thing is, I feel like Dying Light exceed so much in regards of movement. it's free flow parkour AND ya get a grapple hook at some point to get to further heights much easier, whereas Dead Island feels like a slippery slope of ice that yer skatin' on all the time.
As for combat, Dying Light has the better cuts and slices that feel so satisfying when you land them, but Dead Island has more fun to use weapons and mod effects (just wait until ya use a save editor to mod a shotgun with the developer no.2 craft mod, oh so much fun).
Dead Island also has more character selection variety with separate skills, abilities, weapon specialties and voice lines, but even then they feel so lifeless compared to Dying Light's crew, along with all of the other characters throughout the Dead Island game. To me, there's no development which makes it difficult to feel sad to see someone die, and the cutscenes were so damn sloppy.
As for environment, I'd say Dead Island wins because of the variety between them and the colorful looks they have. Dying Light looks more bland and has a lot of buildings, but that's to compensate for the parkour movement so it had it's usage either way.
To summarize it short, Dead Island is a more fun game to play than Dying Light, but Dying Light still does some (critical) things a lot better than Dead Island could. Both games are fun, but it's all personal preference.
Firstly, Dying light was amazing imo (the DLC is something else, a lot less interesting).
Secondly, after Dying light I felt I had missed something about the Dead Island series, because it seemed the same without the parkour thing and with only forest environments.
So I bought Dead Island. It was amazing. The city and the prison changed my opinion.
It was a lot less polished than Dying light but seriously fun.
And then I bought Riptide, with its amazing environments. I had doubts but at the end it was great. Although it incorporates 4 or 5 tower defense uninteresting stages (and I encountered bugs in 2 of them).
In conclusion, the Dead Island series are great after Dying light if you can forget the parkour thing. You may have issues with the mouse control during a few minutes but you'll get used to it quiclky.
The best thing is that Dead Island and Riptide are not too long, so you won't get bored. As with Dying Light (without the DLC, I got really bored with it).
