Empyrion - Galactic Survival

Empyrion - Galactic Survival

well, back to using the "map" command i guess...
i quite liked the new CV detector in space in 12.3. a ping showed most of the asteroids and POIs, but you still had to spent some time flying around to actually find out, what was hidden behind the ?.

and here come the patchnotes for 12.4...

- POI in orbit are now distributed up to 15.000m from center in each direction (before: 2000)

so the developers decided that flying around in space for 30 minutes in 12.3 is not enough fun and now we are back to hours, if you want to find something.

my new 12.4 starter sector has everything spead out real nice with distances around 20k+.

nah sorry, going back to using the map command instead of spending hours flying around in space.

what do you guys think of the change?

What's the range on the CV detector again? You can reveal like half the playfield with a single ping.

I appreciate the ability to use a radar like feature now. I'd rather understand why it's not an option that all asteroids aren't mineable. And some mixture of minerals should be available in many or most. It's the one thing about Empyrion, nothing, nothing, nothing bam perfect patch of iron or maybe promethium nodes or in space bam asteroid of rock and perfect cobalt patches. I'd think there would be more of a mix of asteroid content but ulitmately the game should be fun and it is. I'd rather not have to fly so long between asteroids, maybe have some kind of intermediate boost and even the ability to tell a flight computer "hey go fly me to that asteroid using boost and make it quick!".

It's the one area all survival games let me down, they assume my IRL human time is absorbable by a sponge disguised as a game feature; but those are hours I will never get back.

you could in 12.3, but as explained in my post, the asteroids and POIs are now way farther out. or i got a bad seed :)

I think instead of a question mark, which is almost taunting, maybe a small white slowly pulsating sphere, hinting there might be something good there.

Compensate by modding the Detectors to increase their detection range proportional to the new increase in playfield placements. It's changing one number.

The 2,000 seems like a typo. Things were a lot further out than 2km before the update. I'm pretty sure it was supposed to say 20km to 15km, not 2km to 15km

I would solve the issue by having EVERY POI in a space playfield give off a brief blip effect when you fire the detector. Not enough to be noticeable on nearby objects, but clearly visible against the skybox. It'd be a clear indicator that something is out there in a specific heading without requiring you to dragnet the entire planetary system.

Would be nice if the ping echo stayed there. Quite often, by the time you're a quarter of the way to it, the ping echo disappears and you have to ping again. If you were using a map, you would permanently mark any areas you got a ping echo from.

But the main problem is that slowboating all the way around the playfield, investigating any echo result and finding only garbage takes far too long. Even ED had a short range high speed flight (cruise) if you had a target to go to to make interplanetary travel a bit easier. NMS also has the same thing rather than make you slowboat everywhere.

Warping to a target should take you all the way there. I have a space station near an ice asteroid. If I warp to the specific marker for it, I land in the same place on the playfield as I would if I selected the playfield from the map. That means 20 minutes of slowboating to get to my base.

I increased the time to hold the pings in view. Problem solved... except that it doesn't solve pings randomly disappearing for no reason. That happens pretty often. I compensated by reducing the recharge time by 40%, so that I can ping again faster to re-display the misbehaving ones.

that's exactly my point. slogging through space to identify everything just takes way to long for my liking. i COULD turn on youtube or a movie an my second screen, or i could do the dishes in the time it takes to fly 20 clicks but what's the point in playing then? :)

Second this it is truly difficult to find anything in space!

I don't condone identifying everything with the ping. Just keeping the question marks constant instead of timed.

Also, a fast move for a CV in space to cover large distances a bit easier, something like a micro warp that allows 5x or 10x your normal flight speed, even if it uses pentaxid to do it. I get bored with slowboating 20 clicks at 110 m/s, that's 3 minutes of doing nothing but watching empty space since you can't even get out of your seat and do other jobs on the CV. Doesn't sound like much, but it's so boring that, 3 minutes feels like hours.

Nothing wrong with using the map command is there? It's your game to play as you like. Some just want to get on with the game and not get bogged down with exploring so why not use map? Others do actually enjoy having to put a little effort into exploring to find what they need. Some like a mystery that unfolds rather than reading the last page of the novel first to see how it ends. Play as you enjoy.

A speed jump/micro warp sounds like a good idea though.

agreed. add micro warp drive. but the balance would be that your mauverability is crap and it takes a few klicks to slow back down to a stop. and not to mention when you are going THAT fast, any impact, no matter how soft, is devistating. a single bullet would hit like artillery. an asteroid would be like taking a hit to a fully loaded fuel tank or ammo container. destroy half the ship. honestly, just press "I" and turn off the brakes and then point at the target and give 5 seconds of thrust and then sit back and wait. what do you think astronauts do on a 3 day trip to the moon? you can just relax and watch youtube or hang out while you wait for 3 minutes to fly to the moon.

Think about all the money they will make from books, magazines, articles, speeches, product endorsements and how great that bacon double cheeseburger will taste when they get back.
