Hover Craft wont fly over water?
Is this a bug or do hover crafts not work on water anymore?

i love my new submarine, i just wish it would move faster than 0.5 m/s.

Unless they went to bed for the night, its getting late in Germany !

A friend has a hover that can fly over water and if it sinks it can reach the surface: add one block above your hoverpads additional hoverpads.

Have you tryed placing a booster on it and jumping out of the water to reset it?

Make sure you have landing skids. I had the same issue on a prior game and it didn't matter what i had.
However on the latest game I ran into the same situation with the 'kerplunk'.
After putting skids on it resolve the issue, at least for me.

skids are not the 100% solution. i have my skids at rear because i have variable decks that can change the form and so i have to sidedock in my ships because i stack my hvs (hv over hv). skids at bottom prevents my hvs from driving inside my ships.

This is a very strange bug and I have not encountered it except when I tried using an older design HV, it would frequently sink. I readjusted the location of the Hover engines (not the Booster plates) and that solved the problem. Here's the rub, the older design and the new design have Docking Pads, they always had them (SP game).

Booster Plates, Hover Engines, Hover Pads? do not need to be double stacked to work.

You can verify this by checking the design I am refering to, test fly it, tear it apart if you want, but in my game (8.0.2 build 1721), this HV does not sink in water:

Here's the design:

If this design also sinks in water, keep in mind that in my game it does not sink, which should lead you to consider that the game may not be bugged in this respect, something else is causing the problem. If you are playing on an MP server other than the "official" one, it may be that the game files are not up to date, just a thought.

My HV does not sink either.... most of the time. It's the prefab 1a with a harvester added. I did have it sink once on a starter planet in MP and once in a SP game though. However, going over that same water a 2nd time, it did not sink. I think it's got something to do with the angle at which you start crossing the water and how fast you're going when you get to it. If you come at it from a fairly flat perspective, even fast, it does not sink. If you come down off of a mountain and hit the water hard, it sinks and you can't get it back out except to crawl back to the bank.

Yes, exactly. Also, if the HV engines are not placed correctly, and the front end drops a little, that little bit of drop when approaching the water will cause it to "dive" into the water more often than not. It's the same physics as coming down fast and hard from a steep incline, like you said.

Progress !

The devs have been tracking this, HV sinking bug'', and we are testing a fix in Experimental today so fingers crossed there on the right track !

I love submarines too, but I really would like one that does more than .5 m/s ! l

Anyway, onwards and upwards !

Have noticed it only really happens on lage bodies of water - when out deep - e.g takes ages to limp back to beable to pop up to resume.

Hv's sink...it doesn't matter what build or how you use them. If you just got to this game and think they don't sink, you are incorrect. There have been different times where the code has been better and a couple of days where it was so bad that every time you sank. The build is not responsible, the placement of the engines is not resposible, the way you drive is not resposnsible. The code is wrong and it gets better anfd worse depending on changes to the game. Biome changes depth changes rocks on the bottom server lag water entry deco loading auto brake off can all cause you to sink.
Xerxes86 Jun 19, 2018 @ 12:27pm
I haven't really noticed this. Sank a couple of times, just figured it was hitting the water at the wrong angle. I mostly skim across fairly fast so something like a rock on the bottom isn't going to do much. Also I have left the HV hovering on the water while I dive for stuff, and it never sank.
