GUIDE: Setup a Dedicated Server
EDIT (9/12/2019) - I no longer play this game, nor do I wish to support how they conduct their business. I will leave this thread info up because, unlike they think, I am not a jerk. Please do not ask me to help you set up your server, I don't want to help Eleon in any way to increase their wallet size. I am sorry it affects you, fellow players, but I have morals and have to follow them or I lose self esteem.

Hello! Today I shall bore your eyes with a topic on how to create your very own dedicated server!

If you're unfamiliar with me; you'll be needing some Visene for your eyes. By the time I am done typing, your eyes will be so dry......How dry will they be?!?!.....I don't know, but I imagine fairly parched!

Step 1) Dedicated Dowloads
This part is easy peasy, in Steam; up at the top, click on the option called "Library".

Anyway, open the menu of Library, and go to the option called "Tools" Incidentally, being a tool myself this menu-option is what gave me the idea for the tutorial...

You should now have a long list of greyed out toolery. In the upper left, under "STORE" button should be a search box. Type: Empy

Yeah, that's it: Select the "Empyrion Dedicated Server" and start the download!

Step 2) Starboard Forward!
Alright, now we're ready for the second step. . . .What?. . . . . . . . . . . . . .Hold on.

Ah, sorry, ignore this step!

Step 2) PORT Forward!!11!
This step is a pain in the aft...ahh the setup for that bad joke was almost worse than the joke....almost.

This step is also complicated, in it's own way. So IF YOU HAVE ANY TROUBLE, post in the thread. We'll do a walkthrough just for you :)

And why? Because Router Rudy says: "Everyone of me is different!"

Anyway: Go here -> https://portforward.com/router.htm

Find your router on that list, click the link and follow the instructions.

PORT: 30000

NOTE: Back in the day, I was a moderator on the Minecraft forums. During that time I had the same type of thread set up[www.minecraftforum.net] for hosting servers. I've got the mad skillz, and have been able to help get most everyone up-and-running. So please, before getting frustraited, ASK in here. I'll do my best to get you going, and tooting my human horn: I'm pretty good at this.

Step 3) Wait
Check your download of the dedicated server tool. Is it done?
If Step1 = yes then goto Step4 else WatchVid = True

As I'm using the PC I game with to run the server, my external ip, local ip, and even the localhost ip(127.0.0.1) all run the server, and all run into the same issue when the password is not hashed out.

The router I have is a BT smart hub, and just to be clear I'm running a cable and have 70 meg down and 20 meg up.

Do me one last favor, while I brainstorm.

Activate your server.

Log into game (NOT server)

Instead of logging into your server via the list, use the "Direct IP Port" option.
How: https://empyriononline.com/threads/how-to-start-non-server-multiplayer-game.6153/#post-54572

Try each IP, I suggest starting with external.

I remember this happening to me when I tried to host and play on the same machine, I got around it but I am going to have to recreate the issue methinks.

I am also running the game and a server on my machine. In the begining my friends couldnt connect to the server unless i was in the server. this became a big pain in the rear thrusters until i took the time and setup port forwarding. something to keep in mind, once you have all your port forwarding setup and if you still have issues you may need to check with your ISP to make sure that they are allowing those ports to be forwarded. some ISPs (not many) will block certain ports from being forwarded on a private network.

I would think most of your problems are coming from not having port forwarding setup once you get it setup your problems should disappear. also something to also test once you have your public IP (not 127.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.1). start your server without the password then exit the sever but do not close the server process. then connect to your server like a friend would. enter the public IP on the bottom right of the server list and enter the port. you should be able to connect. if not your server isn't being broadcasted for others to connect. this your router or ISP blocking the broadcast of the server from the port forwarding.

ok so I think the issue is with my port forwarding.

I cant for the life of me get my server to show on the list.

I now also cant get onto the server using my external IP address.

I am reading a lot about the BT routers struggling with port forwarding :(
McBoag May 23, 2019 @ 10:50am
Solved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So it turns out that 2 things are definitely true:

1) BT support staff are absolute pellets...

2) BT smart hubs have issue with less common port forwarding. Standard RDP, SSH Telnet ports are fine, but anything out of the ordinary and they just plain don't work.

I got my hands on a draytek vigor 2860 and opened the ports. All previous mentioned issues no longer exist.

I can now see my server in the list, I can use my external port to log in and I can set a password for the server that works.

Thanks very much for the help guys. :)

Woo! Glad to hear it's them and not us!

Was going to do mass troubleshooting this weekend, glad I can be lazy instead.

Enjoy your server :D

Okay. I can't find my xfinity router on there. I also looked and it said something about dual-band. So I went to the port-forward website, and my router wasn't there. Any idea? I can't port-foward just because of that...

Did a quick Goog and this result popped up:

If that looks like Greek to you, hook me up with some more details about your router. (Model number etc.) We'll see if we can get you up and running A.S.A.P.

PS: I am working on Minecraft modding, so if my reply is taking too long feel free to pester me via personal message. (That goes for anybody by the by :) )

One question, am I supposed to change the password? I type in password and it tells me to change it. I know that's the right one, but is it just temporary or no?
Exend Jun 4, 2019 @ 7:44pm
I figured it out now, butttt, it says in the port forwarding menu to go to x fi or something. And I don't know if I have xfi neither do I know the password or username to xfi. I don't know if my parents know or what. I don't own my wifi.

All this information tends to be printed upon the actual router.

I am not sure how Comcast handles that though. You have several options! (They get stinky as you go down though :( )

1: Check the router, see if there is a sticker on it with the info you need. If there are stickers, and the info is Greek. Post 'em here and I'll see if I can translate.

2: Get the paperwork that was given when you signed up for your internets. Parents, hopefully, have the details if you're not aware of the location.

3: Have parents contact Comcast asking for the information.

4: Try Username: admin Password: password
(I lied about the stinky part)
Exend Jun 5, 2019 @ 8:23am
I found my password on one stickers, but can't find the username. I don't think I can post the details because that'd be private or something. I don't know if the username is like home-(####) with an e in that or something? Thanks.

Also, I tried number 4 and that didn't work. It says reset your password. The xfinity website has you call them. But I got through the first website with the ip with 10s and 0s and 1s. The port forwarding option says go to the xfi website. Soooo... And besides, I know my parents wouldn't let me take their paperwork.

Try this as a username:

admin

If that doesn't work try:

username

EDIT:
You don't need the actual paperwork, just the info on it. And you just need the user name at this point.

Also, if the above suggestion doesn't work. Try this:

username: admin
password: password

Followed your guide. Cannot get my dedicated server to use an edited playfield or custom game options. Everything keeps setting back to default. Am I using the wrong GameOptions.yaml that is in the scenario folder I specified for the server to use? Is there another one? Should I edit sector folders to get customized playfields (resources) in the scenario folder, or the playfield.yaml in the Content folder? I've searched and searched and searched and cannot find any data on this that isn't over 2 years old. Thanks ahead of time!

Not entirely sure I understand, so bear with my ignorance please :)

Are you in step 5, trying to set the custom scenario folder location?

GameConfig: GameName: DediGame # Determines name of the ... Mode: Survival # Survival or Creative Seed: 1011345 # The seed determines how the ... CustomScenario: Default Akua-Omicron # Enable custom scenario... # CustomScenario: Default Multiplayer # Enable custom scenario...
(4th line down part?)

If so, forgive my baby steps in this part, are you certain you've spelled the folder exactly as needed?

Remember you CAN use a custom folder too, just have to make sure it's spelled 100% (including spaces, and capitals, etc)

What this means, make sure your custom world(s) are in a custom location (folder). It makes things easier, even if your custom folder is just a backup of one of the defaults.

Again, forgive me if I am off base.
