Let them finish Empyrion 1 first

With a few exceptions, sequels are never as good as the original. The only thing that merits a sequel is when enough time as passed that its easier to start anew improving on the previous game with improved tech. In this case it would be no. The only motivation is increased sales from the initial boom of "its something new". Current generations have short attention spans. Most steam accounts are packed with games with less than 20 hours of playtime. Half finished everything moving onto the next 15 minute distraction.

Let's see EGS has been in development for what 10 years now? And still not finished.
You are anxious for another version with a 10+ life span possibly before it gets finished?
Hopefully they finish EGS first!!
Why?

While fully acknowledging that many sequels and remakes are cynical cash grabs, it is not that hard to think of several reasons to think a 2.0 could be more justified than continuing on with 1.x~. To be honest, when was the last updated that was not centred around the divisive DLC release or the all important first two hours of game play,

-The game has been in development for over a decade - the code itself could be the equivalent of a timey-whimey-wibbly-wobbly tangled mass. How many updates have resurrected squashed bugs of days past.

-Changes to the development team over the years could leave sections of the code in a 'thar be monsters' area of the unknown.

-The march of progress; the state of hardware/operating systems/skill and maintaining comparability, it could be more reasonable to start over with new minimum specs, or start over from scratch with the skills they've developed rather than keep trying to update the past.

-The current engine may no longer be up to the vision of the developers

Honestly, how many non-MMO games can you think of that still have a (comparatively) active community given it's a small, indi, niche, unfinished game. Skyrim, No Man's Sky... I would include Space Engineers, but 2.0 is in EA. This has nothing to do with the current generation vs the old guard - I started out on Atari, Commodore and Colecovision, and I'm more than ready to see some actual progress. If that is best accomplished by shaking the screen and starting over? so be it.

Let them finish this game, they are still using shared assets other games use. And you want part 2? Part 1 took over 10 years and its not even fully completed.
its a dying game, new graphics could bring larger player base, the game mechanics and game play is awesome. Also when you making a game for 10 years, you not doing something right lol.

And you think they will do better a second time?
Prefer they finish the first one. I would not buy an EA EGS2 for this reason!

They are a small indie dev team and don't have the manpower to work on 2 games at once. If they start on a second Empyrion before finishing the first game they will lose pretty much all good will they built up over the last 10 years basically immediately.
It would be a very dumb move on their part if they did.

Heck, by the devs own admission, just to work on the DLC they had to completely stop all work on the base game for 6+months just to get the DLC out, to then have to basically spend the entire following year ever since then also working on fixing that same DLC.

All for a DLC that got pretty universally negatively reviewed.
Yeah, they can't work on a second game until the first is finished....
