Polaris Drones turning hostile while friendly
When doing the polaris mission on Ningues, at the end, after trying to apprehend Pendrell, a Capital vessel & 2 rocket drones appear. These are marked as Polaris, but whilst my reputation with them is friendly, they immediately attack me. Even if I fly away, they keep following me (on the planet), forcing me to attack them back, but this leads to the polaris turing unfriendly. AND the capital vessel keeps following, eventually sending MORE drones... I don't know if this IS a bug, or a feature of that mission, but it's kinda problematic...

This is a bug that the devs have marked as "Tracking/Filed" on the official site. They only tend to mark it down as that when they acknowledge there IS a bug but they don't know how to reproduce it yet.

Tracking/Filed = It has been reproduced & logged in our internal bug tacker & in a que to look in to as soon as it is possible to do so.

This has happened to me every time I start a new Polaris Mission. Very annoying.

I think it's a bug. The very first time I played that mission, everything was fine. But when I started the mission again, Polaris drones started to attack and wouldn't stop. I wish they would fix it because I would like to do the missions.

It is by design that the drones attack. We assume it is rogue drones following Pendrell's order to cover his escape.
You will also notice that you do not lose reputation when you kill those drones.

Op feels differently.....
They said they DID lose reputation when killing them.

Why would the devs be actively tracking this bug if it is by design as Amrak claims?
Hmmm

Good question? If you do the mission, this happens every time. I believe IDA even warns you of the attack, as memory serves. She warns you as you are headed for the console. Many do not notice/ignore what IDA says sadly. I did not lose rep when I shot them down. Now if you hit a Polaris building that will lose you some rep. I took the fight away from the buildings as best as I could.
I will start a new game and see but am pretty sure this is true. I did the Ningues twice and had the same both times.

So I just finished the mission again.
When you finish the elders conversation at the Quarry, you are sent back to confront Pendrell. IDA tells you to be careful. You confront Pendrell and then are directed to go to the terminal inside the station.
As you enter a dialogue screen that takeing up half of your screen pops up. It says;
Kyner Rend Technical Officer
"Sir security systems are suddenly going crazy. The security systems have been shut down.
I am tracking multiple bombers and drones. We are defenseless. We can not...wait...this is not.."
Sir it is Pendrell! He has rerouted all control to the shuttle cockpit! Sir you have to stop him!"
Then you are directed to shoot Pendrell who teleports away!
After you shoot at Pendrell you report to Rend in the back room of the station to end the mission.

You do not have to fight the drones. I stayed inside the station and the station did destroy all the drones. You do not have to shoot anyone other than Pandrell. I did have to shoot a cyborg to get to Pendrell.
I did not lose any rep points and did gain rep points finishing the mission.
The only way you can lose rep points on that mission is to open a container, shoot the guard at the shuttle, damage a building(which will not make you unfriendly) or shoot a Polaris person inside.

I would have taken screen shots but there are updates on steam I do not want to get as of yet for a couple of games I am finishing up my current playthrough. If they start to update it will mess up what I am doing. I wrote down word for word the dialogue.

You don't have to, you get to! Fighting bomber drones with an SV is a rare treat. This is the one opportunity you have for a big vessel fight in Crown.

Assuming you decide to have this fight instead of proceeding to the next step, it should all be over after the drones and cyborgs are dead. There's nothing else hostile on the map. You can go into Pendrell's ship and attempt to stun him like the mission directs.

It's at this point the bug happens. A Polaris PV accompanied by two drones shows up as the cavalry coming to restore order. These Polaris drones are hostile regardless of your reputation. This is not their intended behavior.

Strangely that has never happened to me and I have done this mission 4 times now. Maybe that is why the devs can not reproduce it either.

I mean, that's how most bugs typically work though.

You could personally run the mission 100 times and never see the bug happen.
That doesn't mean there is no bug just because you didn't experience it yourself.

Another person could run it 10 times and experience it all 10 times.

Oh no of course. There are many factors that can or not produce bugs.
One for me is I never play online, so I do not see a lot of bugs that others report here.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

My reputation did drop down to hostile. And I was chased down by the big cruiser. This didn't happen the first time i played this scenario

I don't know if this can help to identify or resolve the issue, but: the hostile drones and CV only appear if/when I shoot Pendrell. If I manually complete the "apprehend Pendrell" task, the drones & CV don't appear, therefore no counteractions needed. So i keep my reputation and am able to complete the mission...

Any fix totally ruined my playthrough.
