This is happening to me as of today also. Unsure if related to latest windows updates as others have said as it was working yesterday night/this morning and I verified Windows Updates (win7x64) last checked yesterday 16th Dec 15:35 AEST but last updates install date was 15th Dec @03:12 AEST and it's definitely been working since then.

Also, crash happens whether launching from steam or directly from executable in steamapps installdir using all three things: EACLauncher.exe, Empyrion.exe and EmpyrionLauncher.exe.

I have now about a dozen crash log directories and it is asking me to submit to developers at yoursite@yoursite.com - which I am sure is wrong - where do we submit it? It's definitely not starting up no matter what I do.

Also, from looking at the crash logs:

Empyrion.exe caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005) in module Empyrion.exe at 0033:400e1180.

and

Write to location 00000000 caused an access violation.

Unsure what that module is or does, and my hunch is it has something to do with EAC even though not everyone is using it (my server requires it though), but I can't even get into the main screen to go into the settings and tick/untick the 'Start with EAC' option. Also, why is it trying to write to 00000000?!?!

Tried rebooting several times and has not appeared to make a difference. Also (and most importantly), in desperation I uninstalled the game from Steam, re-installed whilst crossing my fingers I would not lose current save games in creative with my new creations and/or unsubmitted bps. After reinstall and launching using the 3 different exe's ...it is still happening.

Needless to say - verified game cache at least 2-3 times and also has not made a difference.

I am out of ideas as to what to do next. I have Christmas breaks holidays and there is nothing I would rather be doing than Emyrioning around, but I cannot!@#!!

Next steps:

1. I am going to work to try and uninstall it from my desktop there in case it is conflicting (win10x64+latest updates) - I know it's a long shot, but maybe when installing there it has added files making it incompatible with my win7x64 install at home...
2. Try to delete my user profile in win7 here and recreate new one migrate all the programs over and reinstall to a fresh new steam/userdata - doubt it would make a difference also a long shot.
3. Install latest beta drivers for my AMD HD6770 (have already got the latest stable drivers installed)
4. Buy a new video card???
5. Goodbye, cruel cruel world.

Anyone know where to submit these crash dir/reports? (surely not yoursite@yoursite.com...)
Anyone know if the devs have caught on - as it appears it is not just me in this case and what they are doing to fix it?
Anyone have any more info? Anyone have any more ideas on what I can do to test?
Is it working for anyone?

Ok - it was still running at work, closed and deleted local files from steam (uninstalled @ work), came back deleted on win7 at home AND deleted the folder still left after deleting local files - so completely fresh. Rebooted. Reinstalled. Crashed. Verified integrity of game cache - OK.

I did notice there was a few downloads upon reinstall - including workshop files which is good, but it was downloading them very very slowly (~10kb/s).

Moar infoz: Current content BuildID: 1492706

As this is not happening to everyone, or so it seems, next step is buy new vidya card? :(((

Also, opted into new beta 5 and going to test that, as I think perhaps the devs in the rush have dropped some v5 code into the v4.4.x tree and is preventing start. Maybe by installing 5 beta it will fix my old one (after removing the registry setting as per instructions in the patch notes). However, I suspect if this was the case a *LOT* more people would be complaining about it not starting - I don't think everyone who plays emp installs the latest betas, however exciting they may sound, yet it is still working for others today...
Neg, still crashing with v5 beta installed. Don't even get to main screen, same logs and same message. Who do we send these to?
I suspect you are just seeing the EAC bugs. Disable EAC in the game via Options/Misc or run empyrion.exe

I couldn't get to the main scream to disable EAC from starting up. Starting it from the exe's directly ( as mentioned in the previous posts above) from the game folder whether Empyrion.exe or EmpyrionLauncher.exe was yielding the same results - so was looking for a way to disable EAC from a config file or something...

Just an update - Thanks to feanor_269's post #21 - I paused my AV (ESET in this case) and it worked. After that, ESET re-enabled I suppose but it continued to work for a few hours. I just BSOD'd and when coming back, now I get over and over "Launch Error: Dotlocal DLL redirection detected" from what appears to be EAC :(

I am having the same issue. My error code is 0x498fb2b6. I run Windows 10 64bit, and have already done the verifying of the integrity of the files, and that did nothing. I also did a complete uninstall and folder deletion and fresh download/install of the game. This has not helped at all, either. This has been going on for a few days now, for me. I've tried running the game via the Steam PLAY button, also via the EACLauncher.exe, also via EmpryionLauncher.exe, and even via Empryion.exe. They all give me the same problem.

For those that say to turn off EAC, YOU CAN'T. The game does not even get to the starting menu in order to let you do that. Please, do not say "just turn off EAC" as unless there's some other way to do it that I don't know about, we're unable to do so. :(
run empyrion.exe

EAC is only loaded if you rune empyrionlauncher.exe or the eac executable.

then go options, click misc tab, turn off EAC.
Again, been there, done that. It doesn't work. Can't get to the options at all if I can't get to a menu screen.
That's what I was saying Gothmar. Furthermore, after the BSOD and previous experience today, I realise that 80% of the problems with Empy is caused by EAC and not actually Empy. So, get this, EAC has created an "Empyrion.exe.local" file in my %steam%empyrion - galactic survival directory. The file is marked as hidden, so you cannot delete, even though the EAC forums say this is how to resolve this issue (dotlocal dll redirection error). When you go into the file properties to remove the flag, it says you need to chkdsk and scan for errors because your disk is 'dirty'. Did that, even though it's a new disk (about 1 month old) but OK, still says same thing cannot delete. I also found it copied itself to C:\windows\systemWOW64\ directory. This I was able to delete. Rebooted and tried deleting the .local in safe mode, heck then tried deleting EAC alltogether, and will never play on my same empy:gs server again which requires EAC :( ... still didn't work. The disk is fine, it has jsut marked some of the sectors as dirty I suspect to prevent it being removed.

... so at this point I uninstalled Empyrion - Galactic Survival from steam again (6th or so time reinstalling today...) but it left the folders in %steam% directory... so I went to delete it and low-and-behold, still saying 'disk is dirty' (even though chkdsk says its fine) -- EAC has 'embedded itself in my system' the likes of malware and I *cannot remove it or troubleshoot it*. sigh.

Don't want to let EAC win, out of ideas ... for now. BUT I'll be back.
the Themida error is coming from the EAC wrapper.
@Bothmar if you are seeing an error, its shoudl not be the Themida "contact yoursite@yoursite.com" one when running Empyrion.exe on it's own.

I zipped up my saves folder to keep any blueprints and then deleted my Saves folder manually as a backup and re-installed and all is good now.. I turned off my antivirus, reinstalled and rebooted, now game runs OK. (My internet is site at the moment, but the game does now launch)
Damn. This is getting out of hand. kill all steam and empyrion processes in task manager, then try delete the files. Sorry this is taking so long., it is a bit rubbish.

i am now thinking my disk *is* actually somewhat dirty after the BSOD, because i cannot write to anything on that drive. doing a chkdsk again (again, physically the disk is fine) but with options (chkdsk a: /f /r /x) because it seems that exFAT drives/partitions gets set a dirty bit set when it BSODs (all thanks to EAC)... and this may reset it so i can delete the Empy folder and do fresh install (with EAC again ... aaah lol). It's ok zaph thanks for ur help, im a bit of windows noob and appreciate your help :)

If that fails and you still can't delete it, download a linux live cd (can be put on a usb drive too) and do it from there. http://www.linuxmint.com is pretty accessible for most Windows users.
