For example, if the game says there is an ore deposit with 10254 in it, you can usually mine more than that out of it. But the game will remove it from the map when it hits 10254.
Given that node only contained about 1500 ore as displayed in the game... it's no small difference.
I've always managed to get between 200 to 800 more ores out depending on it's size.
But it would be nice if the game left the ore icon on the map and just changed it's description to "depleted"
Why ?
Once it has been depleted there is no need for a icon there anymore.
True, but as the original post points out, not all the ore has been removed before the icon is removed.
Wouldn't you want to double check those rare deposits to see if anything is left? Particularly on a mulitiplayer server where you might not have mined it yourself. But if the icon is removed you won't even know where to check.
I see that I seem to remember it being once the deposit get to around 15/10% or a little lower the icon is removed. Im not sure if thats intentional I will ask hummel about it.
If the icons stayed until ALL ore has been removed then yes I would check it out. But I dont think having a icon there to show 'Depleted' is needed.
At least we know they are aware of it. "Case Closed" :)
So as I had mentioned this was on a rented server. After logging back in the next day, the icon reappeared and was showing "11% of 869" (or a number close to 869). After completely mining it out, the icon disappeared again for good.
I'd actually be in favor of a different icon showing up for depleted veins, to mark the location of the hole. Could this come in handy for someone who would make an underground base in an already dug hole?
LE: quick update: I found a Silicon vein with 862 Silicon, mined it until it disappeared from map, checked cargo: 414 ore.
LLE: update2: Cobalt vein with 542 ore at 100%, the percentage dropped rapidly to 11% and when I stopped drilling the icon disappeared. 287 cobalt ore in box.
Using a self-created mining HV with 5 drills.
I always seem to get more ore out than the listed figure. But I also always stand on the surface and use my drone to do the mining and once depleted switch the mode of the T2 drill to filler and cap off the hole.
