Beginners building guide
I know the game is one sale by the number of questions about building that suddenly come up on the forums. It's often the same few questions so I could throw together a short guide to address the problems first timers often have about building. Hope it helps! If there are more building questions ask here and I'll try to add on to this.

Empyrion Building:

First, make a starter block. Though the model of the starter is simply a core, you can not place just a core block to start a base. You must make the starter.

From the starter you can attatch your basic building blocks. I'm using Concrete blocks. You can also push N while facing the core block to open the building menu and check the "Connect To" box to allow you to place blocks freely on the terrain up to roughly 250meters from the core.

You can also click and drag to make a row of blocks or press and hold left Ctrl while clicking and dragging to place blocks over an area

With a platform built right click with a block selected to access other block shapes. This is where we get to the most common dillema for new builders. Walls and how to place them. As you can see in the next photo, before placing the thin wall, it's model is contained in a blue framed box.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1780262010

This is the actual area the wall takes up. Once placed you can walk through this space, but nothing can be placed within this space, as illustrated by the next few photos.

A solution to this is to rotate the block so it's non used area is facing out. Placed like this, things can now be placed in the corner and against the walls.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1780262142
(plant placed in corner where before it would have to be placed one block in from the corner)

A similar problem occurs when making a ceiling. If you place a thin wall block with it's bounding down, something like a light can not be place on the surface of the model, so it will be floating in the air.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1780262198

You can rotate the block so its box is facing up but if you intend to place anything on top it will again be floating a block in the air.

So for floors and ceilings it may be best to use full blocks.

Great job. Now..I read, some of blocks can change the colour. They are many tamplates for factory, where base or HV are in 2-3 different colours. But...I try everything and still don't know how to change colour of the block?

You want to look for the color/texture tool. In survival it has to be unlocked in the tech tree and can then be built, in creative just push H to open the item menu and click on the weapons tab. Note that at the moment, in the item menu, there is a color tool, texture tool and color/texture tool. The first too are still functional and in my opinion a little easier to use but the combined color/texture tool is replacing them.

Thanks for the posative feedback. I kind of threw this together so it felt a bit disorganised to me. This weekend I think I'm going to try to put something a little more detailed together.

use the page up key to raise it up till it turns green. Or if it's too high use page down to lower it.

pretty boring
They are 2 types of blocks - S nad L. On Base You can place only L (Large) blocks. Small blocks (S) You use to build HV/SV.

Hi mate, is there a way to turn a ship into a base, recently built a ship and thinking of turning it into a ruin with all the mod cons :) nice article i had a nightmare matching up some of the blocks ive read that you can copy and paste is this possible as matching sides would be so much easier and less time consuming, it near killed me near the end with a few blocks i had forgotten to match up.
