Unplayable Co-Op?
Hello,

I'm trying to play this co-op with someone, and it is unplayable. We cannot interact with things like tents or food/resources on the map etc etc. The not being able to use tents really sucks too because we keep freezing to death before we can get anywhere.

I don't remember co-op being so broken. What's going on with the game? Is dedicated server co-op just broken, or am I doing something wrong?

You have multiple ways to deal with that.
There is the portable terrain placeable heater/cooler to deal with some of it. There are foods and drinks you can use to warm up as well.
Other than that any powered and sealed structure self regulates the temperature to safe levels. So a base, sv, hv, or cv that is sealed and powered.

The tent and beds don't work in MP because they operate by advancing the game time forward.
That doesn't work so well in MP where you have people on many different playfields across the galaxy, all at different points on each planet, and therefore all experiencing a different time of day at the same time.

For example someone on one planet would sleep to avoid the night, but that was your daytime and you now missed it because that other player slept, so now it is night for you so you immediately sleep to daytime, which advances it back to nighttime for that other player.
It's a continuous cycle.
The devs didn't want that, plus other issues, so they made it not possible in MP.

Can't speak for all your issues but I can answer for the tent.
The tent and beds only work in singleplayer mode. They do not work in MP. Co-op is MP.

You can't sleep in any form of MP at all. That is intended.

So how are we expected to avoid survival instances without tents or sleeping? As soon as it hits night, the temps drop. lol
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

In a game like Minecraft you can solve that by requiring it so that multiple people have to sleep at once to initiate it. In Minecraft there is only one time of day for everyone.

That wouldn't work in Empyrion though because as I mentioned the current time of day is not the same for all players like it is in Minecraft.
While it is daytime for one player on one planet it is nighttime for another player on a different planet. Or even 2 players on the same planet if they are far enough apart one can be experiencing day while the other experiences night.
So sleeping just doesn't work in MP. There is no way it could be implemented to make it agreeable to everyone at once.
Especially when you can potentially have hundreds of players all on one server.

Because remember, when you sleep the game still calculates all the fuel your structures would have used and deducts it from the tanks.
So people across the server sleeping would accelerate everyone's fuel usage because that time actually passes. There is no way to balance it, along with other issues.

Oh, okay. I understand why then. And I do vaguely remember the heater/cool. I guess we just gotta work faster to get it unlocked, then.

Thank you so much!

Also try moving towards the equator and lower altitude.
