What do you need the money for?

Everything you need to get out of the Ellyon system is mineable in deposits marked on the system map.

If you want to salvage a CV warp drive instead of building one, the story missions lead you to a wreck that has one.

Some of the stations are random so YMMV on exactly which traders are present, but check this out: https://empyrionbuddy.com/item/PlatinBar

You can always craft the platinum ingots into platinum bars.

Then you can sell them at any Pax Purgatory which are super common. Or at a Settlement trader (usually a colonist or Polaris settlement will be on at least one of the planets, if not several).

Bars will have better price than ingots, and settlement will pay more than Pax.
Settlements are also pretty common. They're fond of console deco blocks as well.

Yeah it is worth making note of everything they buy and keeping those parts whenever you strip a POI.

In vanilla it is pretty easy to get rich running a manufacturing business, selling furniture or guns or forcefields to different traders. But that gets boring and I prefer to just sell what I salvage.

From my knowledge only at specific pois. Easier to sell the platinum if you make it into platinum bars. Which inadvertently i believe makes the platinum useless and only viable in trade. Since the game has gone through many updates since i last played i cant say with 100% certainty. But the trade space stations are usaully a good place where i was able to sell it. Also some settlements also buy them. Unless you got a lot of platinum in your starter system. You i would say would be better off selling something i probably shouldnt mention in a forum. As platinum is harder to gain. Then again im going off of memories from my run 2-3 years ago. So things can be different now.

I'm pretty sure that platinum is useless in vanilla except for trade.

In RE1 you make some stuff like advanced warp drives from it, but I don't think it has any construction use in vanilla.

Except for that one quest item, but they give you the one you need now so it is hard to mess up.

I enjoy trade in the game. Its a key point of what makes me enjoy the game so much. Then again I strongly need to get back into the game again to do a proper run. Its just hard for me to do so again without feeling burnout. For platinum. I always personally gathered it as part of my scheme of to hoard it and make my own treasure vault in my base that i never finished.

Platinum to me is ok trade, but not really something i see myself getting rich on in the game in a average run compared to other forms of trading items that i can just buy in bulk and sell in bulk, then again i play with weigh limits and cpu limits on. So maybe im just going off of memory of what i could only carry or store on my ships to sell. But to me platinum as a trade wasnt that good or profitable. I think it gave me less in return than gold did. Then again i always find the goal of becoming a galactic billionare fun. But i never go out of my way to get platinum for the purpose of selling it or trading it unless i set that as my own personal mini goal to stall on continuing a project just to prolong my laziness.
Well, you sell the platinum ingots to me. Jokes aside, some planetary settlements of some factions. Some stations. Depends on the poi in question but if you keep searching you will eventually find one that buys them. But note a trader only buys so much of anything and will need some time for it's inventory refreshes to accept more for buying. At least I'm pretty confident traders refresh the inventories they have after a bit as I could swear they do. If I'm wrong someone will correct me I'm sure.

In Vanilla I like to create Sniper Rifles and sell them and then buy the needed resources to create more for a tiny percentage of the money I got for the Sniper Rifles.

I was thinking about creating a base with a lot of small constructors near a trader that buys Sniper Rifles and sells ores. Just... too lazy :-)

Update:
Yeah, and a bed of course. I play Single Player, so I can do it that way.
