Biofuel recipe
It's a little strange that biofuel is made from fiber when the player might have tons of rotten food in his warehouse.
Perhaps the recipes should be changed? Biofuel is made from rotten food, and the recipe for rotten food is changed from protein to fiber (because all food becomes rotten in a natural way).
Yes, I know that I can change the file Templates.ecf myself, but this seems logical.

If I remember correctly it was made in the past either from rotten food or seaweed, but that was around the times when the plant monster was also a thing.

It's probably made that way to make it a little more difficult to acquire, since rottenfood is readily available.

If it helps you feel any better, I will set that up in my scenarios. :)

This should answer your question, it's obvious they decided to change the in game bio fuel from a first generation to a second generation biofuel:

First Generation Biofuels:
These are made from food sources such as sugar, starch, vegetable oil, or animal fats using conventional technology.
Common first-generation biofuels include Bioalcohols, Biodiesel, Vegetable oil, Bioethers, Biogas.
Though the process of conversion is easy but use of food sources in the production of biofuels creates an imbalance in the food economy, leading to increased food prices and hunger.
Second Generation Biofuels:
These are produced from non-food crops or portions of food crops that are not edible and considered as wastes, e.g., stems, husks, wood chips, and fruit skins and peeling.
Examples include cellulose ethanol, biodiesel.
Thermochemical reactions or biochemical conversion processes are used for producing such fuels.
Though these fuels do not affect food economy, their production is quite complicated.
Also, it is reported that these biofuels emit less greenhouse gases when compared to first generation biofuels.

I'm pretty sure every product you can make has only one constructor template. That means biofuel can only be made from either spoiled food or plant fiber. Since plant fiber is producible from wood in far greater quantities than spoiled food can be at the times biofuel is most relevant, it's the better alternative.

Probably moot these days, though, since the starter moons now have vendors that sell promethium fuel packs.

If you need a pinch of promethium at the start, skim the bottom of large lakes on akua, not sure on the other starter's methods. Beware these bits of promethium can only be mined once per area.

Once they are gone, thats it.

By hunting stone golems (or however they were renamed to) at night on Skillon with a tiny HV. It's a good way to get other minerals at the beginning, too.
