disapointed, fun start is no more
as a returning player the SP start has become no fun anymore imo - it used to be the best part that i enjoyed

so i have over 3,600 hours playing the game, i have enjoyed the game for a long time, most all of that in EA (iirc ive only played once right after EA ended)
during all that time the early game was the best fun and made restarting worth while

starting a new game last week ... has been a complete study in frustration
the way the necessary 'next ore' is Always hidden behind the eight ball, so to speak, is totally frustrating to me, it simply leaves no room for anything but straight linear play (ie head on into dangerous territory with insufficient gear)

only one available location to get Z&E, with a short range warp, for example, - no salvage to speak of, no traders etc etc, its like if i craft even one unnecessary part i dont have the ore to progress and thats with the ore amounts ramped to max in the settings

i got more than my moneys worth so i cant complain, but i thought it would be fun to revisit - after several days of banging my head against a wall and making Zero progress ...
to the point i almost started cheating stuff in, i guess i will give up on my first playthru ever

I agree, I really enjoy starting over. I to do not like the baby steps start we now have to go through with the four moons tutorial. I will say that starting on the swamp moon will get you where you want to go faster. More POI's and loot to get to the asteroid belt. Attach the item there and warp on to real planets. After getting away from the 4 moons, I did not have much issue in getting ores for a CV to get out of the starter system. Found plenty of wrecks to salvage and POI's to take down as well.
Just a shame they did not give us a choice to start on Omicron. Would have made it much better for us veterans. As is I just play vanilla until RE and StarSalvage is updated. Then off to the real games!!

I agree with both of you. 2500 hours here. Used to be an 'open' world start. Now you are shoehorned into linear gameplay. I dont even play this anymore. The grindy scripted start turns me completely off. That, and the inability to customize your starting planet.
I don't see the problem. Starting planets always had the same first tier resources. Then you'd fly to the moon or surrounding asteroids and get cobalt and pentaxid. Then you'd go mine a load of neodymium from another sector. Then you have a CV and can go anywhere. This happened every single run irrespective of what starting conditions you picked. It had to be this way. You might be trapped in the starting sector otherwise.

The only real experiential difference is that you get to, and indeed need to, play with more interesting toys sooner. You can't just motorbike around the planet to access its bounty. You need to make an SV that can carry cargo around the Crown sector if you want all its materials. It's got a sampling of every kind of encounter you might have on planets to come.

I understand players who do not like the new start since v.1.8, but the old start can still be played by building an according scenario that starts you on Omicron. it requires you to get accustomed about how to make your own scenario - or better say 'game start'. It's really not that difficult. Here a good template for it including all basic instructions:

i wish!! unfortunately you need sathium for a cv warp drive as well, i literally have none within the range of my short warp sv atm, so its another example of only 1 way to get anything now (i have spent 2 days getting no where looking for salvage)
i am not 'stuck' afaik, yet, and i have said i have plenty of experience and could probably continue, but spending Days on end 'searching' and possibly getting no where again does not sound fun to me

idk exactly why really but imo its just not as fun as it used to be, at least not for my play style
i like to build up my gear, then go after bad guys, it just seems like they intentionally try to prevent that gear up by putting ores behind enemy lines so to speak, meanwhile starting you out in a harmless starter planet (good thing i guess since you cant get past basic gear easily)
if its how you like it then im glad for you

There's sathium on the barren planet within SV warp range.

got shot down by an anti aircraft compound (dang things have a range as far as the spawn in)

Swamp planet Abandoned POI's. Salvage alien blocks and you get sathium.
The Big Brzezinski Jan 13, 2023 @ 11:16am
They straight up sell sathium. erestrum, zascosium, and other important ores at that mining station in Obipl Rho. On the old starter planets, you'd just salvage some sathium plates from some Legacy POIs. It was never a real big deal.

Yeah, change your game. In my game there are traders. But if you don't explore you won't find them...

Starting planets, are too easy, please can we have a few more in the vanilla, they have all been tuned down ever since around 1.4 when they got a bit easier, now just plain linear-feeling and tired looking, despite the curious new POI's which have gotten a bit OTT/cluttered on some starts.

Try the ashon orbit start on hard difficulty settings.

Yeah, that's only one start and once you have done it once, then, well you have done it once, and hate scripted escape rooms forever after.

Basically all this time and we have only had one new start added. More starts like Masperon and Skillion please.
