How to place landing gears under my ship?...
When I place the SV starter block it falls to the ground, how do I build on the underside of it?...

Kinda this.

You'll need to pretty much build the ship to a functional state (doesn't need to be pretty) so it can hover in the air (thrusters for all 6 axis, fuel tank, RCS module, generator). Then hover it just above the ground and jump out. It will remain there for a few minutes before dropping.

The drop is a safety mechanism in case you accidentally jump out of the cockpit, so you're not stranded.

Alternatively, you can build the ship to a functional state, then fly it into space. Make sure you are outside any gravity, or your ship might fall back towards the planet. Though beware of the pirates!

Nice I wondered about the dropping when I saw my GV do that, nice to know they have safety precautions like that in the game.

I am really surprised by how many people are asking this question, or doing overly complicated things to solve it. Find a way to raise the ship core off the ground so you can get underneath. Placing it on a raised platform is the easiest method. Place a block on the top of your base (or any other open area), place the SV starter on top of that block, extend the SV off the sides of the block and build what you need underneath.

i got my mate sit in the pilots seat and hover it once it was built then i easily could fit that on , if i was alone i would built kinda ramp thing out of 2 rows of blocks so i could walk under it and then fit the stuff on , be creative ^^
Thanks, yeah just putting thrusters in all directions and raising it up kept it stable.

cheers

I usually start my ship builds on a landing pad on my base. I start by placing the SV foundation on a truss block to raise it up.(truss block uses less parts) I then build the ship, with the idea of placing the core in the center of mass. Of course, you can always move the core later, if you don't like its position.

I seem to have done the easiest thing possible..

Alright just use the fill&flaten tool (i think thats its name) then just raise the whole thing up, place landing gear under it, i also found it usefull for working under the ship without having to do the above methods

Do it in orbit!

Also if the gear wont attach like it should, its a bug....log out and back and try again....same with fitting most any part or painting.

You can also use elevator cubes as gantries to build your ship on, place the cubes in a layout of 3 x3 cube and place the starting block on top of them.
