Won't let me place generator/fuel tank?

I watched a video and it lights up for dude in video to place but no where on or near my base will it let me place either of these two? What am I missing here? I couldn't find anything else to help.

Hi, you probably select the wrong generator. Watch if it is for base (BA), capital vehicle (CV), small vehicle (SV) or ground vehicle (GV). There is colored point to indicate which it is.

I made the same mistake the first time I played it. You have to make sure you are using the right gen or tank.

PS. You can't make the crashed CV across the lake from your escape pod work. It's just for salvage only. The pod can be repaired but not the CV.

That's it. When I saw the 2 different gens, I thought to check but i've learned that games usually state small or just generator but they got me. Thank you
