Where To Put Generator
Sorry for the seemingly dumb question (there will be plenty more).

I've built my base foundation, crafted a generator.. When I try put the generator down it says 'can't put that on terrain' or 'can't put that on base'.

Where can I put it?

Great game by th eway, most accomplished early access I've played in a while.

putsome hull blocks around to base, to extend the plattform, there you can place the generator and fueltank and stuff n things ;)

if you still get the message, reload the game, helps usually

Make sure you've made a Small Generator.

Cheers guys.. I will try both of those tomorrow (I think it was a large generator). It may have been on sand as well, I guess that's not good?

no you must place it on a structure connected to the base and core, and it must be a generator for BA ( Base ) the Units you can craft have all either GV ( Ground Vehicle ), SV ( Space? Vehicle ), CV ( Capital Vehicle )

Tha's a great help, cheers :)

There are 4 classifications of items.
GV (Ground Vehicle)
SV (Space Vehicle).
BA (Base)
CV (Capital Ship Vehicle).

The only thing you can build on sand/dirt/etc is a "starter" for one of those 4 things (on the constructor tab with blocks, etc. I htink it's the 2nd tab? The first 4 items on that tab).

Each of the 4 things you can make has a starter.
You should have a core in your escape pod cargo boxes.
1 Core + 8 hull blocks = base starter kit

** Be careful, the SV starter kit and CV starter kit are the same. You want a Base to start (almost certainly).
** The GV starter kit requires a hover engine as well as the previous list.

If it tells you "can't place" and it's a block attached to your base... you've got a GV/SV generator not the CV/BA generator.
You'll use it later, but not for your base. :(

Some items are interchangeable, some are not.
Cargo box, can go on all 4. Same item, 1 type.
Fridge, Generator, O2 tank, O2 stations. 2 type. a GV/SV version, and a BA/CV larger version.
RCS, Thrusters. 4 types. One for each thing.

Look for both the GV, SV, BA, CV tag on an item; and/or the dots on the item in the build screen.

Green, blue, red, yellow... I forget which is which, (sorry).
Hopefully It'll be pretty straightforward once you check RCS or thrusters though (each have 1 dot of one color). :)

So, when you look you'll see Cargo box has 4 dots, each O2 tank type has 2 dots.
Each Thruster/RCS has 1 dot.

WHere to put the generator? 1 degress off the course of Orion. 3.2 degrees left of alpha centauri. Put the generator on magic BLACK cubes.

Enjoy.

I think you forgot one classification T for terrain. Which I believe is for the water purifier and oxygen generator?

I totally did forget those.

Yes, you can put water generator and O2 generator (you start with an O2 generator in the escape pod) on the ground as well (and not on base tiles I think).

Just put them both underwater in a lake for maximum effect.
NOTE: They require separate power and will not use base power from nearby bases; remember to put fuel cells in them.
