The short answer is yes, but I'm not sure about the turrets.

yeah :)

soon as you replace the core the turret become yours

You will stop the turrets from targeting, but this also means they will not target anyone else either. So i wouldnt waste a core on the planet towers.

Alien Space Stations (dont shorten the name lol) are worth it, there you can replace the core, and start using the station entirely. I still believe you need to place your own station defences, but i could be wrong about this.

I have taken over the asteroid field station, but i killed the guarding drones and they dont respawn, so im not sure the current turrets coming with the station actually shoots hostile targets.

Ok cool. I also "dig" (Pun intended) mining in space. I like how the ore floats away, and you have to be quick to get it.

At the moment, there is (sorry) no way to make the Aliencannons work for you. You must detroy or recycle them (Make slesser damage) and place your own turrets.
But the Corereplacement (With your core) makes at least all other spacestationsystems work for you. Like Constructors ect....). It is in all cases a bit save of material to take a Station, instead of building a total new one.

"Save a bit of material" is a bit of an understatement. :)

I have learned that replacing the core works for some things like the outpost and space stations but not for the towers.

However the game is constantly being changed. Just a few days ago outpost did not shoot at you and now they do.

One more thing. Take out the core with your repair gun. It gives you some (if not all) the parts you need to make another core.

I just replace the core of the Research Station, everything seems works fine except (the turrets, i guess and) the gravity generator, is this a bug, or it is because maybe the building is not a capital vessel?

The Alienturrets work never for the Player. They shut simple off and are "dead" constructs.
The Gravetygenerator should work.

The lights on the base make the game lag severly. Soon as they are turned off, the game runs fine. Will that change? Im talking about large bases like the dome shaped one on the moon.

This may seem like a very stupid question, but I'm kind of new to the game and don't understand how to place my core in the alien structure and have it connect properly instead of just acting like a new building.

Edit: Solved. I was trying to place the base starter instead of the core block.

Right now the ore floating ability has been rolled back so the ore stays frozen where it is once mined, but I do believe it will not stay that way forever, once mining attacchments for SV start showing up the physic's will probably be turned back on for ore floating around.
