Empyrion - Galactic Survival

New Player - New Tutorial sucks...
So about a week ago I found Empyrion collecting dust since 2016 in my steam library. Decided hey lets give it a go. So I played for a day, and honestly was learning what I needed to learn, and everything was pretty straight forward. I however had to stop playing for a week after that.

Then this newest update came out. New player experience! new tutorial! awesome I thought. I don't remember anything from a week ago anyway, so lets start fresh all over again... and... holy crap is the new player experience BAD...

Not only do the quests not show on the screen anymore, the tutorial just kind of half ass teaches me things..

First quest "pick up everything" with a massive text dump that somehow tells me nothing of real value for the immediate situation... Pick everything up and promps to teach me the multi tool, okay that's fine.. Then.. nothing... I just happen stumble upon the next quest by pressing buttons and activating the scanner with a "oh we found "Something"... quest? Again not even sure if it is as nothing shows on the screen.. unlike before, and... okay what was I supposed to follow? Oh I guess maybe the yellow marked thing.. since that's the only thing.."marked"? Again completely failing to point that out to me, but my usual game sense as as gamer for 20 years tells me the yellow words probably means significance...

I don't know how you make a pretty good tutorial into an absolute ♥♥♥♥ show.

Original tutorial was great, it gave you what you needed to know in bits, and while it did have mometary text dumps it transitioned in a way that made sense, and the text dumps were about 1 specific thing.
---------------

Old tutorial:

Hey you crashed land, here's some info on buttons for help, F1, etc. Pick up your multi tool right there on your screen as a quest objective, here's how the multi tool works once you pick it up, now go mine a few things to see how it works, with another quest objective, now go gather some food, here's how to make food, and eat it, and what it'll do for you, and the buttons to find blue prints and other helpful things. Lets scan for something important, oh look we found something, lets run to it. etc. etc...

It was a straight forward quest, with prompts, quest tracker, and everything easy to guide you, and followed a reasonable and logical transition...

Now it's just... a joke... Here's 3 massive text dumps at odd times, no guidance, or quest objective direction, no real guidance on anything, and the logical transition of teaching the player mechanics is a "oh you stumbled upon a game mechanic now I"ll tell you how to interact with it and how it works"... forcing the player to stumble upon this stuff, rather than logical flow of information teaching the player.

I'm not doing tutorials (because of past experience, they trap you in story line) but so far everything along those lines has been annoying. Let us interrupt what you were doing with a bunch of text.
Same with talking to the Talon Chief. Click through it to get it checked off the list so I can trade, didn't read a word of it.
If I wanted to read I'd pick up a book not a game.

I did the tutorial just to see what it was like and really is painstakingly simplified. Then on to the story line and it's like "ugh" what's next. Very confusing.

I enjoy the new tutorial. Learn by doing. The whole teach me how to make a crappy base and hovercraft was nice to learn for the basics. I just got the game earlier today before the patch, so I had no idea how to do this stuff. By the time the update dropped, I had a hovercraft I downloaded off the workshop and a base with a few large refiners, storage, couple turrets, and I fought off the first drone attack. Then the update happened, and I kinda like it.

The storyline stuff gives 0 guidance, and that's bad. I'm going to marked locations after visiting the obelisk, reading the computer terminal there, and marking everything on the map, but there is no actual quest that gives direction on what to do. Find and read all the logs by visiting all the places. They could have at least implemented a quest log that says:

Find log at bunker
Find log at actuator
Find log at ____
Find log at ____

Having these get checked off as you read the log would go a long way for giving the player some general direction. Then do the same for the other moons. I'm assuming I need to visit all the moons and planets that were listed in the computer terminal at the obelisk. There's a fine line between freedom and being completely lost in video games. Some basic guidance would be great for the story line. Not that I expect it to be very deep or interesting, but it's something to prod me into exploring more.

What you say about the tutorial can all be obsolete, the 1.8 version has changed a lot in this regard, and if you stopped playing a week ago you didn't play 1.8. Come back after starting new in 1.8.

They said they are playing the new 1.8.

The OP was created 18 hours ago, making it after the new update.

In this long waterfall of words in the main thread I don't see the words 1.8, also a reason why I stopped reading, sorry my 1st answer is ok.

LOL The very first 2 sentences tells you that they played 1 week ago for a day! The second sentence tells you that they could not play for a week. Now that would put the time for coming back to yesterday!!!

Then the third sentence tells us all that they are on the new update. Hint the OP was made yesterday after the update!!!

"Then this newest update came out."

See that was not so hard to figure out now was it??? So no they are already playing 1.8 and that is what the OP is about. And not to mention 2 posts above this one the OP clarifies it as well.

Your first answer shows you're an idiot and you don't read.

The tutorial didn't work in my game on solo and kept doing a repeat of itself.
The old tutorials led you around by the nose. They put you in the wrong mindset for a game built around exploration and discovery.

The new ones make timely suggestions. They hold info dumps until they become relevant. There's a bit of signposting around the Crown sector, but besides that, you're left to decide for yourself how to proceed. Deciding for yourself what to do is the correct mindset.

As I get more into the new tutorial I tend to agree with The big B.

Yes, the title speaks about a 'new tutorial', but what version does it mean exactly?
1 week ago 1.8 was in Experimental, that's not a version reflecting the FINAL 1.8 which is realeased only now. Exp versions should never be the base for a long discussion and review, they have faults, they have bugs and this is planed to be so in order for the devs to get feedbacks. There is nothing to discuss - retrospectively, there was to be given feedback. Was. Now that's past, exp is over.

And who cares wether you can play a week ago or not, that only gives indication that OP was playing exp version, not 1.8 regular version.
