Drones attack idle ships
I parked my ship about 60 (kilometers?) away from my dig site because whenever I start digging for resources, one of those highly annoying drones comes along and bombs the crap out of my ship. Well this time, I couldnt get to it fast enough, and it destroyed my cockpit. I am stranded very far away from my base now.

This seems kind of odd that it doesnt attack me instead or the tech tree not give me an autoturret for my ship. What is the alternative here? I have to build a base over every dig site first just to protect my ship?

I can cross my fingers and park it on the peak of a mountain, and it may escape notice. Generally I equip missle's so I can dig myself a hole, this is more reliable. Auto-turrets for the SV are not available. I've been stranded on a planet that had no base before, I had to remove my helmet and die, I thought I could return to the nearest Medic station in orbit. Nope, shot me back to Akua. This was horrible because I did not think I even had the supplies left on Akua to rebuild another ship, and no supplies to GET the supplies lmao. I now keep sufficient materials to start again on all bases/planets.

Ultimately, I often just end up walking to wherever I need to go so as to spare myself the heartache of this very issue.

Edit: Crossed my fingers, still wasn't enough, Drones found it before I could get back lol. Nothing but the Genny left!

I never leave my ship very far away for any length of time. It is a prime target for drones and only the player can defend it. I park out of range of bases that I need to storm on foot (for any of a variety of reasons) and as soon as the coast is clear I go get my SV and bring it close before I explore the base or whatever I am attacking. As far a mining goes, if it is within 1/4 of the planet, just walk there. If you have to fly there, then park close and come out of the mine about every 30 seconds and do a scan for drones. Another option, you can take an HVstarter block, some hull blocks, a fuel tank, small generator, and turret and build a gun emplacement. Here is how I do it:

I usually park my SV under water ... this way the drones won´t see it.
Unfortunately there seems to be a bug that occasionally wreaks havoc on the shoip:

but aside from this, a parking position under water seems to be the safest location you can use ;)

Your vessel will always be attacked - it has your core in it, and that is their enemy.

had this happen so many times - you just have to make sure you keep your ears open, and react quickly as soon as you hear the rounds plinking off the hull. Never wander far from your vessel - i park mine directly next to any deposit I want to mine.

I've never not been quick enough to down the drone/s before they do terminal damage to my vessel. There's always a short while to react (depending on how well you design your vessels, too, of course - don't leave vital parts exposed).

that's interesting. can't one travel with a core in hand and remove the core after parking?

Awesome idea, let me know if it works, or I may try it myself lol.

Something else I've done my last few mining excursions, I'll park a small shuttle right on top of the deposit and then begin mining. Keep in mind, I'm talking a small, base minimum sort of ship just to get me around the planet, not even much armor. This thing is TINY and takes up almost no space in my hole. Once I begin digging, it sinks into the cave with me. This also eliminates the problem of not mining yourself into a pit that can be a nightmare to escape from, lol. It has worked well for my needs thus far. :)

Or they could add a cloacking/stealth device for cores... >:-]

Hmm. Now THERE'S an interesting idea. If in fact, all the drones are looking for is the core, it would make perfect sense just to remove it and replace it again when you're ready to go. It would certainly make mining a much less stressful experience. I'll have to test this.

Any luck with the core idea?

Great idea. I will try that.

I just remove my core when I park my ship. Drones only seem to recognize the core as an enemy target. Just make sure to carry spares so you can replace it when your're ready to leave.

Okay, so I did a test. I created an HV and left it parked as close to the Epsilon Weapons Factory as I could. I figured I'd find plenty of drone traffic in that area and it was close to where I spawned. Then I removed the core out of the HV. At that point, I went mining, hunting, etc.

I went a full day and an entire night without a single drone trying to blow up my HV. I probably could have left it sitting there for a few more in-game days but I figured that was enough. Due to my previous experiences, HV's don't last long if you leave them alone too long.

Then was the moment of truth. I put the core back in the HV and went back to mining in the hole right next to it. Sure enough...within 5 minutes, I had a drone shooting at it. Coincidence? Maybe. I don't know the game coding but I found it kind of interesting how a drone zeroed in on my HV right after putting a core in.

I would have difficulty removing my core each time. i had so many bad experiences, with my ship getting easily destroyed because they hit the core with the first or second shot (in 'combat' - not when it's parked) that I now always make sure it's well buried in the ship.

I s'pose I could put it inside the rear cabin of a vessel.

best idea ever, this works as far as i can tell always. ive done the happy dance several times today and just parked wherever i pleased. so far ive parked all over akua with no problems

I'll admit that removing the core isn't necessarily the best solution but until the devs implement some kind of core signature nullifier or masking device, I can work with it. It's better than digging a massive hole to park my vehicle in every time i want to stop. At least I'll be able to mine or base raid without having to worry about it.

The only real drawback to removing the core is that you can't keep the vehicle running for the fridge.
