Arrgh! Building Hover Craft

So I finally get my base up and everything ready to build my HV. The damned evil flowers have killed me a few times, I accidentally drowned once, I wrestled with the interface a bit, , but finally I'm ready. Soon it will be no more walking for me!

So I get the hovercraft starter done ( like many others i didn't realize I needed to scroll down to find the hovercraft engine in the Tech tree) and start building. Soon I accidentally place a large hull block instead of a small one on top of my construction ( damned finicky interface). My poor fledgling HV goes flipping over onto its back. I try everything I can think of to push it over. No go.

I give up, build a removal tool, and use it to scrap my work. I have to start again.

Then I read about the left shift trick.

i think it only works if your hover is fonctional (cockpit,fuel,generator,thruster). scrapping a vessel and restarting isn't that long actualy since you get all your ressources back. but i feel you it still sucks

Yeah you have to have the basic stuff on it to get it to flip. It is a twitchy system to work with. I usually build on a platform of Elevator blocks, but that has it's issues too when trying to work on the bottom.

What are "elevator blocks"?

Elevator blocks are base blocks and they make good building scaffold because you can walk through them and work on bocks above your head that are sitting on them. If you don't have a base built then you can't use elevator blocks yet. Also you did the right thing to disassemble the HV and start over - way easier at that stage.

As far as I can tell, mobs don't use elevator blocks so they are prime for base security. My 1st try I got owned by a plant that came up my ramp and ate me while I was hiding from drones.

As HV's go, your imagination is your best tool. As of this posting I can still cover all thrusters with armor and they work just fine, so experiment away.

lol. I did the same thing. I even dropped it down to the lowest level by destroying the floors it rested on and no luck. Damn pre alpha. WE are mere bug testers building a potentically amazing game! I am very impressed so far.

EDIT: it just flipped over and I dont know why....
