Powering Water/02 Generators away from base
Hey all, another noob question- I've placed my base up in the mountains a good 150m or so away from the nearest water source, but I'm in need of some purified water to get my crop game going. Any tips? I can't place a generator to power the machines away from my base. Do i need to create another base block down on the water? Can I even do that? Thanks.

Water Generators along with O2, and H2 O2 generators, are self powered, meaning you put fuel cells directly into them. So they can be placed away from your main power station. ATM I don't believe AI's recognize them so they should be ok, but this isn't a practice I would get in the habit of.

They consume fuel packs really, really slowly too so they don't require frequent maintenance.

You can't place them on base blocks. They only go on terrain.

I plant 2 Hydrogen-02 generators and 1 for water. they only accept the regular fuel cells so thats all I use those for. All the Hydrogen goes into ship and base fuel but is consumed a little faster but theres no shortage.

I usually build 4 H2O2 and 1 water gen. Use the larger promethium fuel cells to power them and you can go a long, long time without refuel.

i had this issue assuming you could place a solar panel next to it. i found that you have to go to the water generator, press F, then place a fuel pack in the energy items box.

Simple but i spent ages trying to figure this out XD.

Did you see how old this thread is ?!?

Thread necro aside, it's a wee secret that you can also place the generators that require water on ICE that you find in high mountains.

You can be even fancier. Place your generators down and then you can build a base around them. Takes some practice lining things up though. :)

Or you can be even fancier and build the base first while planning for their placement:

My only regret is that I didn't separate them as far as possible down a long corridor from the base as I used to do: the deafening hum is... deafening.

That looks really nice!

I was very deliberate about it. I used console commands to adjust the base alignment so that blocks would have faces *just* above the water line, then I flattened-and-filled that large area of lake bed to be just below that. There's also the HV garage next to it, which has its entrance open to the water so HVs could coast right in off the water.

If you "can't place a generator to power the machines away from my base", you might need to make sure you don't have blocks set up to attach to a base. water, oxygen and hydrogen generators are stand alone objects and can't be placed if attach to base is active.
