bummer, I wonder what the logic is behind that
Long answer (assumption): probably too much work for such a small Dev team (~10 people) to rewrite all the scripts and physics engine to allow for moving parts that interact with other objects, like the ground, deco (trees/rocks) etc.
From what I understand, the motorbike will also eventually be removed/replaced with a hover version (come on Starwars style Speeder!) anyway, removing the last and only remnant of the wheel.
Not entirely obsolete if the intent was to roam the floor of an ocean planet with a tracked vehicle. Seems the HV/SV options we have do not allow submersion. So would be nice to have something like a tracked vehicle that "sticks" to the terrain.
Of course, the challenge to this is the devs disallow flying/hover vehicles from submerging because it seems they (or the game engine) can't deal with water clipping issues. Same reason we don't get to build submerged bases.
Wait, how is this infuriating? There are many other mechanics that are frustrating and this is what bothers you?
No Man's Sky, Space Engineers, Star Citizen, and I bet even Minecraft (mods) would beg to differ.
I'll be polite and ask you to go and play "Age of Empires", there you can research the wheel.
Really? Wheels? Are you guys trying to be funny?
Simple answer: wheels will not be implemented. So saith the developers.
