Now fatigue and exhaustion is something else, and it would be cool if sleep was an actual player need, and use of stamina sped up the speed that you get tired, but we don't have that yet. What we do have, however, is that whenever you use stamina, it drains O2 and food to replenish it, so using stamina makes you run out of breath and get hungry faster.
So while a fatigue/exhaustion mechanic doesn't exist explicitly, using your stamina a lot is going to negatively impact your needs and force you to need more resources to remain healthy. In the early game when you don't have a lot of resources, this can often make using stamina extremely risky.
I like the pacing of the game the way it is.
