Pre-DLC usability?
Now that the game has popped its 'pay for content' cherry, so to speak, how long will the game remain viable/playable for players who haven't got a certain amount of paid for DLC?

I am a little anti-DLC so don't really plan to buy the new content anytime soon, if at all. Just wondering if its worth investing anymore time in this game in its standard form.

Are you on a different planet or something? How much time have you invested in it's 'standard form'? The content cherry is sacred, keys are held by Ravien and Vermillion. Devs are just bystanders.
Start a default survival game and find out.

Usability? Well I have "used" it for 7 years without DLC by playing the awesome community workshop scenarios. I do not see anything that would effect the continued scenario improvements, RE 2 for example, thus the continued "usability" with or without DLC.
I bought the DLC to give back for the 7 years of enjoyment. Played the DF scenario once and will not play it again, so IMHO it is the DLC that does not have "usability", not the base game. While I have been playing WS scenarios for 5+ years. No DLC is needed to enjoy the game for years if it is what you enjoy and have half of an imagination.

As soon as you seriously _need_ a DLC to continue playing the game, the game may rest in peace.

But i accept _fully optional_ DLC, in several games i use them. If the game is really good (in my personal opinion) i also buy DLC just to support the developers.

You can ignore the dlc entirely, what are you talking about?

Perhaps I should have been more clear about my question and concerns with regards to the basic game engine becoming reliant on DLC to run in the future.
I totally respect people saying they will buy DLC to support the Devs, but I don't believe I should have to keep spending money on a game I have already bought, just to keep playing it.
In hind sight maybe I should have directed the original post more towards the Devs.

DLC is really just a scenario. is some elements you can choose to add to vanilla via a prompt when you start a new game or load an old one. otherwise its the same survival.

I was referring to weather the game will run in its standard form in the future, perhaps once a few more DLC have been added to it.

Oh I see. I assumed the new DLC content was just an overall addition to the game as a whole, hence my concerns about future additions become required for it to run at all. I didn't realise it was just an additional scenario option. Kind of reduces my worries some.
Thanks Jalore.

You can activate some of the DLC in a survival game but yes it is a scenario. After playing it I enjoyed Stranded on Nemesis more, another EGS scenario, even though it was just a vanilla scenario.
