Unable to finish main tutorial because of drone attack at offland farm
In the tutorial that is selectable from the main menu, when I do a few missions on the Offland Farm, sooner or later a drone attack happens with 6 Zirax drones and 3 foot soldiers. I don't stand a chance. I've tried sniper, shotgun, rocketlauncher, turrets on the roofs, but these things just eat too much damage. Until I manage to bring them all down while dying 10 times they destroy the core and that's it. No way to finish the tutorial, since I lack the resources to rebuild the farm core and the devices that are relevant for the current mission at that point.

Is this normal in the tutorial? How am I supposed to beat these tough guys?

Sounds like your playing RE?

Only RE would be so cruel as to have a hard tutorial along with, uuuum, EVERYTHING ELSE.

I was aware before hand, when i started playing RE that there was going to be base attacks, so i did not build a base... i simply gathered materials and stored them at the crashed vessel containers.

I found a damaged SV,, Then i built a quick base and fixed the SV, put 3 gattling cannons on the nose and a couple of turrets, and ammo, all the usual stuff and never had much trouble with raids when they came.... here is another tip, shoot from above, don't let enemy get level or above you.

They weren't playing RE. That tutorial is in the base game.

You can or skip the mission or refresh the mission. Tutorials need to be played in an exact sequence or they break...And I guess they may break anyway whatever you do...A reason I never lost much time with the tutorials, start a game, and go through the PDA Empyriopedia to browse for exact things you want to know. Cumbersome, yes, otherwise there are vids yon YT.

What starting planet was this? I haven't done it. I am also surprised to see anything tough in Vanilla. May have to try it.

@OP - no, that is not normal.

It is the main menu START TUTORIAL. At that stage, should be a single minigun drone and a troop transport that drops 3 ripper dogs. The "farm" has 4 turrets but no ammo box/controller. The mission walks you through getting an ammo box and ammo from a nearby building AFTER the attack concludes.

Guessing the change to base attacks in 1.11 update broke that mission.

Ah OK, I see now. I did it, I just never got that far with it.
You're probably right. The new base attack change probably messed this up.

It's Vanilla, but I'm definitely going to play RE as soon as I'm more comfortable with the Vanilla mechanics.

Skipping this tutorial seems the only way not to die of frustration. When I started it the second time I broke the tutorial because I rushed and did stuff before it told me to do it haha, so I had to manually checkmark some missions. Yes, I think I will skip this tutorial.

Yep, it's the "Start Tutorial" one without mods after the very first fresh installation of the game. The attack seems to start randomly while at the farm and the drones and ripper dogs stop attacking after they destroy the core. The second time I went straight for a turret on the hangar building and tried to defend the base but the drones killed me in a few seconds before I could destroy one of them. In the end I'm left with impossible (?) crafting missions, because nothing is left but some walls, the medical station and the cargo box. Or should I be more creative? Nah, I think I'll just skip it.

Anyway, thank you for your input guys!

Although RE is designed for veterans of vanilla, i will tell you now, you pretty much have to re-write the whole rule book in RE.... This is what i found coming from vanilla to RE.

Every little simple thing you expect to be able to do based on your knowledge of vanilla.... in RE Dennis Nedry waves his finger saying "ah ah ah"...... Everything comes with a catch.... its more than enough to give you an Inspector Dreyfus eye twitch.

Your still allowed to move backwards and forwards though, thank god for small mercies right?? lol

Even more eye twitching? Damn! xD I'm on the brink of jumping right into RE using YT tutorials as guidance.

PS: Does RE improve the ground combat and AI behaviour in any way?

I would say stick with Vanilla for the campaign... unfinished as it is, it is still quite extensive and very entertaining. In RE the campaign is harder but the PDA guidance is much clearer... in Vanilla the problem is figuring out what your supposed to be doing, In RE the problem is being able to do what you know you are are supposed to be doing.

Ground combat seems the same to me? Tho i noted some hit harder in RE.... also in RE the bad guys re spawn super fast, but there are spawner pads you can destroy as you go along to mitigate that.

Good tips, thank you! Yeah, the campaign makes sense as a next step. It's probably a good way to get used to the aspects of the game that exist in both, vanilla and RE.

Garbage game, I just play with enemies disabled.

This pretty much sounds like the Akua starting moon, unless Eleon has change it to have more enemies. I recall when playing it it had no enemies except these passive cyborgs in one of the POIs.

Encase you missed it is the "Main Tutorial", not the survival tutorial.
