Freighter Self-Destruct activated in 5 Minutes?
I Teleport off Starter Planet to a Zirax Defense Station I took over and cored for my "Faction"'s use. It's inbetween Starter Planet and Polaris Orbital Trade Station. It's an emergency option should any of us get stranded at the Orbital Station and save us a 30k m trip back home with nothing but our suit's jetpack.

I want to have a dedicated SV just for use for short range transport between the Defense Station and Trade Station. I pick a blueprint I wanna use, since this is a fully pure utility SV I don't mind building one from Factory, no need to put "heart" into it. 27min and some change build time. Okay cool. Use Armor Locker to switch Armor Boosters for the trip I plan to make to the Station with my jetpack.

I figure by the time I get there, blueprint will be ready and I can drive it back right? I go to the Station, a long trip but, not as long as the one I made from the Trade Station back to home Starter Planet after looting some stuff there.........I'm reminded again why I'm doing this. This should be the last personal EVA trip anyone in my group has to make in home Starter Sector.

I grab a bite to eat, buy some Posters from the I.G.N. (Which is cool) and the very S E C O N D I exit out of the I.G.N. I get warning claxons blaring in my ear and I'm notifed that "The Freighter will self-destruct in 5 Minutes" Uh, um.........excuse me? Wtf is this? First stealth no warning Drone Attacks on my bases, actually literally no warning or alarms they just S P A W N on my base immediatley attacking. Now this? In the midst of the confusion Blueprint finishes. I rush out and put helmet back on and yeet myself out the station.

Spawn BP for the SV, crawl inside and jam fuel in. Scoot away a KM and blink thinking to myself. Exit the game to come and do a Google search to see if others have had a similar thing happen to them. I discover this for the 1.3 Patch notes:

Patch 2020-12-07 v1.3 B3187
.....
Fixes
- Fixed: Self destruct timer for AI vessel triggering incorrectly

I do a CTRL+F search for "self" it returns 5 results, including the Patch notes I just referenced. Above this (in a "newer" patch) I find this for the 1.3.X Patch:

UPDATE: v1.3 (Build 3196)
......
Misc.
- Fixed: Self destruct timer for AI vessel triggering incorrectly

So, for a bug that the devs supposedly fixed (twice) it sure seems weird that after all the hour's I've spent, so far, this suddenly happens for the first time, out of no where, for no reason. So what am I supposed to do? I have a 4 Pol CV's patrolling Starter Planet sector, a Mule, 2 Named CVs, and a Freighter. So does this mean that the freighter will explode and it's just gone? Why?

I was also told to report Bugs on the EGS website. Which requires me to sign up with a user name and password. I've never played a game on Steam before that required you to sign up to the developers website to send in a bug report or feedback. I'm frankly not going to do it. For a game that's been released out of E.A., I'm grossly unconvinced it wasn't for the reasons they claim that it wasn't for in their Public Release statement.

If this is a bug, it needs to be fixed, and should have been fixed, the first two times it was said to have been fixed. If this is not a bug, and it's my fault, then I need to discover what I did and where I fubar'd up so I don't do this again.

If that Pol Freighter does blow up, I'm going to feel really lame. Being deprived of the chance to take it out myself, and suffer the consequences of doing so. What's even the point of Freighter's self-destructing? It makes no sense. Why are they even in the game? Are Freighters supposed to self-destruct when exiting the I.G.N. menu?

*EDIT*
I'm reading about this issue on the EGS forum, and I'm appauled by one of the Dev's attitude towards the community and I just don't know right now. I won't feel guilty for not playing this game anymore and disappointing my best friend, if I show him what I've seen and he, too, loses interest in the game after what he's seen. Smh

=/

I agree with you. I too, have no clue why they would make any of the vessels self destruct. Especially the ones you spend 'umpteen" amount of ammo on taking it out, just to not be able to loot it or salvage it. No point in my eyes for this. Let us at least salvage them ffs.

It's even worse for me. I wasn't even given the chance to f i g h t the thing! I was at an Orbital Trade Center looking in the I.G.N. and when I closed it BAM. Freighter will self destruct in 5 minutes.

Me and my Faction at no point have ever engaged in any of the Polaris CVs in our Starter System, and yet, while I'm the only player logged on, without doing ANYTHING and being about 42 thousand meters away, it decides to self destruct.

At this point I can't even question the feature or why it was implimented, it's a straight up BUG! I didn't even attack it! Zero damage to the Freighter. Thrusters 100% intact. In fact when I looked at Sector Map the Freighter was STILL MOVING.

It's a bug they said was fixed. TWICE. Two seperate occasions they claim they fixed it where the CVs were self-destructing for no reason.

On top of this, the kick in the teeth is the disgusting repulsive attitude of one of the devs concerning the communities response to this issue. It is absolutely uncalled for.

I've had this pop-up message too but it's meaningless as far as I can tell. I don't see a freighter anywhere on my HUD or radar so just ignore it. So yes it's a bug but it doesn't effect you, or your faction, in the slightest so report as such (in the bug report forum) and move on.

That said, the whole self-destruct mechanic they're pushing on us on vessels that we destroy is super irritating. I don't care what their reason is for it.

I just so happened to back up my data within 40 minutes of this happening, so when I went back to see what would happen, I decided not to wait for crap to hit the fan and just started back off my -40 minute back up. But it's nice to know, thank you for telling me, that this "bug" doesn't have any actual in game consequences.

And yes. I've read up on a few veeeery long threads and scrolled Spanj's video on the subject reading comments (as well as Spanj's)

And I agree, them making these CV's and other POI's unloot/salvagable is like taking Rock out of Paper/Rock/Scissors. You mess with the formula you break the whole system. If we can't loot and salvage stuff, then why not play Space Engineers, Oxygen not Included, or Kerbal Space Program instead?

And no. Giving players the ability to "hack" the game yaml files to edit the self destruct timer is NOT giving the player options. Hacking the game to adjust a value the devs refuse to put in an option menu is not an option. And Taelyn ........ I don't think I can tell you what I think him/her on Steam to be honest......or anywhere else for that matter.

Without getting in trouble.

TLDR just to explain what has been in the game since many releases: If you take over any vessel in space a self-destruct sequence of 5 minutes will start. If you don't like it fly away and return to the vessel, this will cancel the self-destruction. Also don't shout it out too loud or the devs will correct it :)

think self destruct thing is ment to be clean up like server clean up system stuff. but they need to add option to turn it off.

You are right. Another game, Osiris: New Dawn, at one point when you made a new avatar you would spawn with an O.M.P.A. , basically a droid that followed you around, and, if you sank in enough Combat/Science/Engineer points into it's own personal skill tree, it could auto mine a designated area for you, defend you from threats, and could also be set to "repair" damaged structures in a designated area.

Only problem was, without the Battery conservation skills unlocked, the Droid chews through the 2 batteries it comes installed with, and then it promptly drops dead out of power. Many players in Multiplayer would end up abandoning their OMPA because of it, also it had a tendency to "fall through the terrain" and drop into the unreachable void where you had to hack the game files to set its battery power back to full so you could "summon it" to you.

And even if a player stops playing on the server, their structures would degrade over time but their OMPA would remain. Some servers were OMPA graveyards. So it had to have server wipes.

But the same problem: In a single player/private server, this isn't an issue, but you would still suffer wipes and resets because the devs put a bandaid fix on the problem instead of correct it.

I understand what they are trying to do, I just disagree with how they are going about it. It's like accidently cutting your finger, and the doctor decides the best chance to prevent infection is to amputate your whole hand.

I don't want sepsis or a blood infection, but the solution is way over the top, disproportionate, inappropriate, and entirely out of line.

In project Eden and reforged Eden I set the self destruct timer to 1 hour. It will still say 5 minutes but that's just a generic warning message.

Nice, I think 1 hour is fair.
