Its still twisting and moving full speed trying to bring forward guns on me. Wtf :P
But be wary: I have beaten several different class CVs now, and taken their cores with no issues. This one blew up and vanished in full in about 30s after I did it. Another bug? Or a feature of the ship. I lost like 5 loot containers ugh.
For your speedy CV, even without trhuster, if it has enough RCS remaining, it still can move. AFAK, RCS act as omni directionnal thrusters
It's a feature of all NPC CVs that if you destroy the core, they vanish in a short time. The solution is to have your own core on hand, blow theirs and immediately replace it with yours. In my experience there's just enough time for me to blow theirs from my CV, jump out and place mine with a couple seconds to spare. It's really tight though, and should be extended IMO.
Once you place your own core, you should have as much time as you need to loot it.
On the topic of looting: instead of taking out the thrusters to stop the ship from moving, just blast your way directly to the core (removing defensive turrets if necessary to give you time). Once the core goes down, the ship stops moving (but the despawn countdown starts). This, at least for me, has been the best way of preserving the largest amount of loot on the ship, as often the best loot containers are placed right next to thrusters, generators, etc that get easily destroyed.
The fact that ships despawn so quickly is very damaging to space combat. Taking prizes would be a heck of a fun way of gathering resources. Since you can't realistically harvest a disabled ship, they remain simple road hazards between asteroids.
It seems bugged for sure. I have a few cruisers and CVs in my own home system that are still there long after I looted and cored them. This one blew everything up immediately and damn near killed me too. I frankly was expecting it to go eventually. Not that fast though.
And the RCS essentially kept the ship remaining at full normal speeds too. They certainly have been boosted since last time I dove deep into the game. This style of destroyer is frankly pretty big. It moved almost as well as my SV did lol.
A relog helped the bug for sure. It took nearly 2 hours to get that thing to stop and I had to relog to do it ugh :P And then to lose all that loot. The lewt ♥♥♥♥♥ in me wept.
from what i've seen of the game, the current team lacks enough experience to make a program that says 'hello world' without melting their computer. this game has been in early access for 5 years and many of its major bugs have been sitting around unfixed since it first showed up. But hey, i guess with it going to full release now they aren't bugs, they're features. Maybe one day the devs will get off their fat asses and fix some ♥♥♥♥, then again maybe one day i'll suddenly discover a personality trait beyond irritated.
I placed all available guns on my ship from projectile turrets to rockets, i think i was carrying 40 turrets and still, it took quite a while to take down its shields and after i killed 5 or 6 of its turrets my own shields were about to drop, so i retreated..man this thing is a piece of WORK.
Shields are good to run with your camper, but a real warship does not even need one
btw the core is not that deep burried

How did you get off the ground? ;)
Are you using combat blocks or the xeno-blocks?
