Direct co-op P2P connections are no longer supported and while some things work, the bug you report is well known when using P2P and wont be fixed..... at least anytime soon, possibly never. (see roadmap on the Empyrion wiki).
You need to use a dedicated server.
Dont know what you did for 3 hours so cant help there - did you follow Feanors article? If not, start over.
- Drop hamachi (at least for now), and follow feanor_269's dedicated server setup step by step.
- Repeat - follow feanors guide step-by-step - it works, ive tested it.
- dont add or subtract any steps to feanors setup
- dont use any information you see posted elsewhere
- Post results as you get them for additional guidance.
- telnet is a client server connection that creates a remote console into your server
-- Feanors setup will make Telnet work on the dedicated server side.
-- If nothing happens when you type "Telnet" into a CMD / DOS prompt without the quotes, then its not installed.
-- Go into Control Panel | Programs | Windows components and INSTALL Telnet Client (DO NOT install Telnet Server) - its part of Windows but is not installed by default.
Get your server running so that YOU can connect to it, the next step is to get your friend connected.
Windows Firewall can block any of this from working so if in doubt temporarily disable the Windows firewall in Control panel | Administrative Tools | Services | windows Firewall. Turn itback on once YOU can connect to the server, and make sure bideirection acces thru the Windows and any AV firewall is granted to empyrion.exe and empyriondedicated.exe.
Hamachi is not required at all. It can be used but adds complexity.
Dont over-think this -- foillow the guide instructions they work.
Good progress.
The primary reason that a server does not show up in the server list is not having both Empyrium.exe and EmpyrionDedicated.exe granted bidirectional access through the Windows Firewall in all 3 zones (and any AntiVirus Firewall as well).
Opening those ports just gets you to your ISP router / Modem. not to the outside world.
You say you dont have any other firewall, but I suspect that inaccurate. All DSL, and Cable modems, Telco fibre hubs ALSO include a firewall. its the job of THAT firewall to convert your internal IP (192.168.x.x, or 10.0.x.x which are private adresses not routable thru the Internet) into a public address that is. its THAT firewwall that needs ports open to allow your firends to connect.
Do this
- What is the IP of your server or computer?
- What IP do you get when you open a breowser to whatismyip.com
- if they are different your cable / DSL modem has an additional firewall doing NAT addres translation and needs ports opened in it.
Or if you cant open ports in your modem, thats where hamachi could finally come into play .... but if you use hamchi you wont ever show up in the list ..... THAT requires the ports in your ISP firewall to be forwarded.
Damn, OK the list gets shorter.
- make sure Emperion.exe and EmpyrionDedicated.exe are allowed Bi-directional (not jsut incoming) in ALL 3 zones (Public, Private, domain) we can assume which is applied where on your computer.
- You need to do the same thing on any Antivirus firewall installed.
- You can test if this is the solution by temporarily stopping both Windows and AV firewalls (this may be tricky as most AV services restart themselves when stopped) .... if it suddenly works, then turn them on one at a time and see where it breaks ......
- Without any more details - it SOUNDS like you got the ATT router correct.....
That being said I sure hope they do fix this bug as I can see many people wanting to play a local co-op game without the trouble of setting up a server.
