Cobalt?

Still trying to make a drill.. and I need cobalt... but everything I have found on cobalt is old or wrong.
I was told "it's in polar regions" -you can't mine there
I was told "it's in radioactive areas" -I haven't found any on the planet and I don't see how you're supposed to know where those are
I was told "it's on the moon" -the starting planet doesn't have one
I was told "it's on asteroids" -the only asteroids in space are ice asteroids -unless you just randomly mine what the scanner says are barren rocks and get cobalt at random
I was told "it's on the other planets" -been to 2, still haven't found any.

How do you find cobalt? It seems really important and really rare, given how much stuff needs it

Btw,

1. press 'm' (just the letter m)
   
2. on the top, press the icon with the tooltip "System Map"
   
3. Top left: activate "Info Panel"
   
4. Top right: click on the right most icon to change the right panel to "PLANET INFO"
   
5. Click on one of the moons (Akua etc.)
   
6. See the resources in the right panel under "Resources:"

The search was becoming quite tedious and aggravating, given that all I want is to make a freaking drill...

On akua, in tundra biomes, I have found the cobalt surface rocks that yield a couple of ore, but there are no cobalt deposits on Akua. You can build a low level SV without cobalt, and fly to the Ningues to get some. You don't need a warp drive to travel between the 4 moons

Cobalt surface rock on Akua. You can mine them. Just make sure you are not in the no mining zone.

You will also find drills in looting POI's. And some charges usually. The starter area tries to equip you with some basic equipment. All you have to do is explore. :)

You don't need to make a drill yet, you're still on the starting planet and the survival tool can mine almost as good.

Even the 'Epic' Drill is far from what I would consider 'Epic'.

It's just not Industrial.

Cobalt can be found through looting, salvaging, and bought from the traders. It can also be found from some surface rocks.

Through the above listed things you can acquire enough rare ores to build quite a few things without leaving the starter planet. But where's the fun in that :)

All I wanted to do was not have a bunch of holes around my base since I built the floor "level" with the ground... I needed the drill for that

I've been to Ningues and it only had like 2 small cobalt deposits that ran out FAST.

Wtf do I do now?

Ningues is a starter moon, not a moon to gather big amount of ressources, the same goes for the other moons. For big amounts go to Omicron or visit other Ellyon systems. Pretty simple.
Or change your tactics and plunder a lot of POIs to fill your ressources.

Thing is, I needed cobalt to make the ship parts I needed to warp to Omicron, and I couldn't find any. I just gave up and used console commands today to get cobalt and if I didn't I don't see how i would have ever made it to Omicron without grinding golems for the next 20 hours.

The game certainly doesn't hold your hand and lead you to the medium-rarer elements, cobalt and promethium and so on, on the starter worlds, but it *does* tell you how to find them. Try everything, go everywhere, you know, *explore*, and pay attention. You can easily run the entire tech tree without ever leaving Akua (by any of the several ways to do that).
