Carbon Substrate

For some reason I am unable to create carbon substrate from crushed stone. so i can't build a constructor

Are you playing the standard Survival game on Akua? IF so there are dozens of Carbon surface rocks laying around everywhere. use your Survival tool to harvest them.

That is a Carbon surface rock. There are also underground Carbon deposits.

How long has it been since you played the game? That recipe is obsolete. Carbon substrate only requires stone dust now.

Which I forgot about because I play RE almost exclusively. You still need Plant Fibers in RE.
But you could never make Carbon Substrate in the Emergency constructor.

But you could never make Carbon Substrate in the Emergency constructor.

The suit constructor has a hard limit of 14-16 recipes and only that many. You'd have to remove something else to allow it to make Carbon Substrate. That's why it doesn't and why there are Carbon Substrate rocks littered everywhere in the Crown crash sites: the Portable Constructor and small O2 generator now require it instead of iron ore, so if you can't fabricate it you'd be screwed if it wasn't everywhere around you.

I also reverted the recipe for it myself, as well as reverting the recipes for the portables to require iron ore again.

Fired up the wrong creative mode to check before posting - I was in RE creative instead of vanilla (which I never play anymore). It happens. However next time before being snarky you could simply check a profile to see how much time a person's put into a game recently. In my case it's around 110 hours the last two weeks.

Eh, easy mistake to make.

Carbon deposits are reasonably common throughout the galaxy. Converting the extra stone you mine along with other ores will also be a reliable source.

On the starting moons, there's even more of it, especially on the surface. There should be black rocks of carbon all around you as you land. Snag a few, pick some flowers for tech points, same old story, same old song and dance.

Someone who manages to overlook carbon substrate rocks - either because they never acquired the free-to-make tool required or because they just never investigated them - is very likely not going to enjoy this game, as there are many such "overlookems" ahead. Is this a failure of Eleon's advertising to properly telegraph to buyers the investigative and problem-solving nature of the game?

This statement is confusing. If you are trying to build the portable constructor and you have no other constructor yet how do you have stone dust? The suit/survival constructor can't make stone dust.

I think I know what you are trying to do, but I am not 100% sure. If you were more explicit it would help. Tell us exactly what you are trying to make and exactly how you are trying to do it.

In the current PE 1.9 there is NO carbon rock whatsoever around your crash site or reasonably nearby (default easy planet start, medium difficulty) so you can't build a constructor anytime soon, Plenty of iron, silicon, copper, but no carbon.
I guess that's what OP was talking about without mentioning PE which would have helped us more to not make confusing answers. This problem simply doesn't exist in vanilla, be it the new start 1.8+ or before, and in In RE you would need only 5 iron ores to build a constructor, so that cannot be OP's problem.
In the PE default start, if you explore you'll soon find at least a motorbike which will speed up things for you to explore other planet regions and find carbon. The motorbike could be random though, and if that's the case then a PE start will be pretty nasty without constructor.
But this is just a prelude for how more grinding is involved in RE/PE.

it told you everything. i fixed it. it was a update error. uninstalled and reinstalled fixed it. there was no way for me to create substrate no matter how many raw materials i had. nor could i use my action key (F)
