Seed generator is broken
Hello,
The seed generator seems to be broken, it keeps loading the same map no matter the seed number. This is since 1,9. I tried reinstalling the game multiple times, same issue.

Is this specific to a certain kind of start? I had already wondered, as I was starting to play it, whether the newest start is even procedurally generated or generated by the usual rules.

I've tried it numerous times with Skillon ( I usually start on this world )
I've tried it twice with Akua, same map is being loaded, different seeds.

Both with custom difficulty settings, as well as the standard Medium.

I BELIEVE AND I MAY BE WRONG HERE that the starting planets are always pretty similar regardless of what seed you use

Pretty similar is not identical, which is the apparent assertion here. Of course planets generated with the same template are pretty similar; there's only so much randomness that can be injected, especially when there are so many competing criteria that must be satisfied, especially with starter planets/moons.

I haven't looked at any of the new playfield files, but I'm unsure whether I would know what to look for to determine the degree of randomness. It's possible that Eleon decided to abandon randomness altogether for the starter moons now. My tentative first vanilla game was the new advanced start (while I edit my mod), so I haven't had a chance to test Leanora's claim. Ravien has far more playfield experience and is better able to determine this than I can.

Using a different seed should provide at least some small differences even in a fixed solar system.
For example, if you use different seeds but there's still always an iron rock 2 meters to your left and a silicon rock 3 meters to your right after you land in the escape pod the seed generator might not be working right.

It's broken multiple times before.

Just remember when testing seeds to fully quit the game back to windows.

on skillion. the obelisk and oppertunity are always west of the crash site, below is pirate sphere of influence, just inside is an 'old shelter' i believe. directly north of the crash is an activator, the two balls if i'm not mistaken. above that a large wreckage. south east is the abandon workshop, etc etc. its always exactly the same for me and i have tried close to a dozen starts, even setting the seed myself. There is even a plant fibre that appears just outside Oppertunity, in the exact same spot, every time. very annoying. i haven't tried any of the other moons, just skillion or whatever its called. started with 1.9.
the only variation i have noticed is where enemies spawn, where the golem hot spots are. everything else identical, down to the trees and the plants.,so yeah, i'm having the same issue as the original poster.

Someone needs to report as a bug on the official forums.

After some more checking, The galaxy map is different when you change seeds but the starter moon is the same. In 1.8 you had different starting moon's too.
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

first of all, that's fun?

second of all, where in the change log is this mentioned? i just did another set of searchers, 'starter' 'seed' 'random' 'planet', etc. in the patch notes after reading this, i skimmed it once already and did a search in case this wasn't a bug before I ever posted. what did i miss?

Then why do I have several 1.8 maps of Akua that are different?
