how do you dock a vessel?
As aboved, having no idea on the docking. where you place the docking pad? how do you dock?
from my experience playing this game, it is not user friendly or i should said newbie-friendly.

you place your docking pads/ landing gear under your SV or HV, no only land or set your vessel down on your CV, in your screen down right side it will no says docked yes/ no. if you have a faction your SV/HV has to be in same as your CV to dock. ther are some good youtube lets plays that can help you in the start. hope it helps

Important is that both vessels must be in the same Faction, or it works not.

I can tell you from my experience docking pads aren't even functioning in game. I never attach them to any vessel and dock successfully all the time. It's just a matter of matching a flat enough surface to hold whatever vessel you are in. SV will dock with any CV as long as it basically "fits" in that area.

Docking pads DO work, they're all I use. They have to be on the bottom layer of the ship with nothing else (except hover engines). This means no armor plate or hull walls.

Also the ships have to be the same 'faction' for the pads to work.

just have your land gear or pads be the only block touching the cv/bs, any haft or deco block will in turn make the gear not lock

Can a small SV dock on the roof of a large SV?

yes
whether the SV has the power (thrust) to move the mass smaller SV is another question.

Thanks mate.

I frequently forget that you can't dock a ship that has other ships docked to it. I usually spend a couple of minutes trying to get my drop ship to dock to the mother ship before I realize that I have to remove the tank/sv and dock them directly to the mother ship before the drop ship will connect.

Just like sitting down in your cockpit. Once there you can move your CV. SV inside a CV... same issue. The pad is the pilot seat.... In essence.

My CV carrier drop ship has 2 CV, 4SV and 4HV docked to it. i only use docking pads and several of them. IF for some reason i need to repair my CV carrier drop ship i need to unload it somewhere...

No key... it just locks when you land on the pads.... if it can lock. If at your base or on your CV and it doesn't dock...you probably have another block on the same level as the pads. Might be just a sliver of a block, but it will still keep it from docking. When taking off, using thrust will undock it.

Everyone saying "no blocks on the same level as the landing gear ... is just wrong.

The only landing gear that has a problem with "slim" blocks alongside it, is the flat, non-folding, SV/HV pads. All the others work perfectly.

To verify - fly to above the landing pad you wish to dock to. Tap "V" then tap "left Alt" and move your mouse to view your ship from the side at the same level. Now lightly tap "C" to descend in a controlled manner. Stop about one SV/HV block height above the landing pad surface. Wait a second or two - you will see and hear the landing gear deploy. If it hasn't automatically locked onto the landing pad, then tap (do not hold) "C" and you will get the landing lock audio and your thrusters will quieten.

A lot of the problems claimed in forums with mechanics like this is because of console players expecting everything to be instant gratification. Slow down. Allow for the "simulation" to immerse you in the situation. Give the devs credit for trying to make the game into more than a space invaders console shooter.
