I tore the whole back end off that ship just to make room for a warp drive. Once you gut the thing it doesn't take many blocks to make it wide enough.
I would say, that the whole thing about the size of a CV is going to be determined by the size of its propulsion device...first.

So you're more-or-less adding a CV around a Warp drive hehe!

I tore the metal plates off the top to make it level and built a compartment for growing plots and warp equipment. The next mod was to add 3-4 blocks width and make a flying whale, with SV hangar...

That starter CV was made before warp drives... my advice? Go into creative, make your own custom, perfect flying home and bp it in instead.

It doesn't take much effort to make enough room in the starter CV and add a warp drive. Maybe 5 minutes of knocking out blocks and 10-20 minutes to make it look pretty again.

I chizzled out the blocks behind the constructor and extened the rear of the vessel slightly to fit the warp drive inside the starter CV1. Before that I just flew around with it mounted on top (keep a spare or two around)

This is it inside. The stairs go to the flight deck I installed last week.

Rule 1: Don't use the dev made blueprints, ever. This applies to most games that let you make your own constructs.

Rule 2: Your first ship will never be perfect, you will always think of ways to do it better.

Your best bet is to get all the parts you think you will need, then go back over what's available again and see what you missed (there will always be one item, often two). Take them into space and out of the planets gravity well so stuff will stay where you put it, and just build a flat floor and start placing things, warp drive first (after the starter block, of course). Make sure the warp drive is not on the core, put it at least a few blocks away, because enemies will go through the warp drvie to get to the core if they have to. When the internal components are done, then start building walls and ceilings.

The dev bps work fine. They just require a little tinkering.

I use the start CV all the time then add to it as I see fit. Well unless I'm creative mode .among something special for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles.

The dev bps are not buggy, they won't break your game, they work fine, they are starter bps for a reason, not necessarily meant for long term use but they're easily modded for long term use.
