Help finding iron ore please

Can anyone tell me how to find iron ore deposits please.

I have only just started the game so on foot only.

I started near two ore deposits neither were iron ore. I have walked around for an hour and tried drilling in different locations but nothing found yet...

You just keep exploring. Learning how to jump ski helps speed it up, but it really comes down to just wandering around for what you need. My first 2 days are always spent trying to find frickin' Cobalt. There are seeds out there you can start with which give you a lot more stuff available easily on Akua. Just search for empyrion seeds 2016.

One way to see what resources are on your planet is to open the map (M) and look at the bottom right. It will show what ores are there, how many of each, and how many are already discovered. Make sure you see iron or you are gonna be screwed.

After reading the topic, I take it that you are just digging anywhere? That won't work. Ore deposits need to be discovered first and they will be marked on your map.

Start exploring in an expanding spiral around your survival constructor. Next when a deposit is located, you need to get a close as possible to the marker and begin digging there.

I typically travel on top of the mountains looking for ORE. It helps me avoid the wildlife especially at night when the scary stuff come out.

I might be wrong but it seems that the various ore deposits tend to clump together. You might get 3-4 in a 500m area. So if you find one chances are that there are more in that area

Pick a path and keep walking it around the planet. You will find a lot.

Build a simple HV as soon as feasible.

If you want a quick player base. Just remove the Talos core, and replace with a player core. Has to be a core, not starter block. The Talos will not attack you. And there's uasually some good loot there. The posts above are great. Build a simple unarmed HV base with only 1 main thruster on rear and 3 directional 1 for each side and front. Put a gen and fuel. Also have some portable O2 bottles (the cockpits don't have O2). Then head for high ground. A 5x5 HV, built this size will scale just about any mountain. Some you need to go sideways up. I always head east until I return to start point. Don't head N or S, will run into unpassable wall. The seed I use, which has lots of resourses and fairly good terrain balance, is 123456.

On the way down in the pod move it about, when high up it reveals quite abit of the area, ore included.
