How to survive in space?

Plants don't seem to grow, water & oxygen is constantly required. So basically you cannot sustain in space. Why can i not build some kind of biodome? Right now all people hug the planets with air+water and the others are kinda only for pvp/mining (if it has anything useful that is otherwise the whole planet is useless).

Plants should grow in space just fine... They usually do for me. A completely self-sustaining base/cv would kinda ruin the game for me. Why bother playing if you never have to leave your ship?

First of all. You can farm some plants anywhere. You just need the right plants and stuff to do that like grow light eta…
Second. Your right, you can't recycle air and water in space and you cannot make a biome.
Third. PVP stinks and that's why I normally play single player. While it does get lonely at times at least I can enjoy the game.

Finding a group of friends is good to.

My plants won't grow. I have tomato + wheat + ? and lamps and tried it for many hours but it doesn't grow?

Maybe your light is too far away? Try lowering it by 1 block?

You need 2 blocks space between growing plot and growlight. One light is sufficient for a 3x3 tile of growing plots (if placed above the central plot)

Yes your grow lights are too high.

Looks to me like those grow lights are two blocks to high but it's hard to tell from that angle.

The grow lights have to be one block above the block the plants take up. It should be Crop Plot block, Plant block, light block, Block light is attached too.

I personally like the idea that you cannot sustain perpetually in space. You can stockpile pretty quickly in the game to live for quite a long time in space. It could contribute to the economy mechanics of the marketplace if space stations need to be supplied as well as large CV needing supply.

2 blocks worked. It grows now. I stlil have to go to the planet for water/air though. But it's close. Would love some space sustain though for crowded servers where even entering a planet is dangerous. risking my life for water&air :D. But I use a small minimal fast ship for it.

If you don't want risk... don't play PVP? Or join a bigger faction. Or a smaller server.

Too far away. The light should be at two blocks away. Idealy one light can grow nine plants at one time.

I have lots of plants growing fine on the planet, but I built a BA space station in space and had trouble. Does it have to be a CV for plants to grow in space?
