I just started a hard game today and now have a stable base about 3 hours later. This is what I did. I moved until I found a location with some iron, magnesium, cobalt and promethium within one or two emergency O2 bottles walking distance (if you don't know how, learn how to hop with the jet pack instead of walking or running it will increase your range a lot). Then I just setup there and started making O2. The O2 generator barely produces more O2 than you use. It took about 7 days before I was finally having some excess bottles. I got lucky and didn't get food poisoning from the eyeball plants which I was eating to heal myself up. Once the golems started spawning I was able to get the resources to start a base. By the time the constructor had created the base block, generator, fuel tank, and constructor, I had killed about 4 golems. I setup my base underground and had enough resources to build a T2 Pistol and 300 rounds, O2 dispenser and large tank, hydrogen oxygen generator, and a medic station. I didn't die, but several times I was out of O2 when running back to get more O2 and had to eat eyeball plants to stay alive. It did feel hopeless until the golems started spawning. Once I got my first golem with ore loot I knew I would survive.
1) Air, 2) Food, 3) Recources.
1) You get the emergency O2 (white) botttle generator, and it's not very speedy. So don't run too far to make your first camp. Once you land, find a secluded location, so your first make-shift camp is not visible to other players, or the bugs. Near a lake is best, but any ditch or gully will do. Most bugs can't get you in water, so even the pools of water in a ditch are much safer than out in the open. You only have a 3 Promethium fuel packs, and some pellets, Set the O2 in the ditch above the water line, if any, and add a single fuel pack as soon as possble, but not more than 2. Otherwise if you pick it up later, before it runs out of fuel, the extra fuel is wasted. Meanwhile, those O2 bottles are you No 1 priority.
2) You have no plant sprouts so a garden is not in your near future. You have 2 (not 4) emergency rations. Save those as long as you can. This is where the lake comes in. Most medium and large lakes have seaweed, and you can pick 50-100 rather quick, and make seaweed snacks in the constructor. If not near water, you will need to shoot a few local critters for the meat, that can also be made into food in the constructor. You also only have 10 iron and some Mag powder. If needed, make more ammo for the pistol, as the rifle will chew up ammo too fast for what you start with.
3) Once your suit is filled up and have about 10 spare bottles of O2, it's time to search for ores. If there are deposits close by, you can make short trips for ores, and return for more O2. But if it's not close by, it's time to break camp. Only when the O2 gen stops, pick it up, and the constructor, then make your way to any discovered resource you need, or start exploring to discover them yourself. Once you find an ore, don't drill down into the ore, start a few meters to the side and drill at an angle. Once you hit the ore, stop, and set the O2 up behind you in this ditch you just made, along with the constructor. Add 1 fuel, and get more O2 underway, and more food if needed in the constructor. Now start drilling ores, frequently adding ore to the constructor to make ingots. Try not to uncover the ore, as random critters will drop in and attack. If it's just a cave, most can't get in the drill hole, and you are much safer. Most hostle critters, spawn at night and then linger on into the enxt day. so try to travel only during daylight.
Tips:
Safety Note: Alien POIs have external high powered guns that shoot further than your mini-map agro ring. These guns are 1 shot 1 kill, and make recovering a back pack nearly impossible. Do not approach closer than 400m unless you are attacking it.
Golums: usually have 10-20 of all the basic ores, and even Neodynium. Kill those when you can, and collect the ores. Ten Golums, and you have 100 Neo and didn't have to go to the moon.
Travel: you can make or spawn an HV for travel at level 5, but make sure it has the tree harvetser, even if you don't need wood. The tree chiper is great for killing Golums, and you then just hop out and loot the ores, saving ammo in the process. A good HV will also have crates, fridgerators, a constructor and an O2 system. See the workshop for ideas.
Backpacks: If you are killed, Drone, Bug or other reason, and you can not get to your backpack, see if your personal drone (F5) can get to it. it has a limitted range, but can retrieve the contents if a spider is still circling it. If that doesn't work, you can also deliberately agro the spider or other bug, lead it away and then circle back to get your stuff.
Good Luck!
Thanks for a great tutorial for a start on this planet. Now it's just for starters.
Just one question : What is Golums
