Right click on Empyrion -> manage -> local files
There is a folder called content->playfields go in there and it shows all the current playfields (planets and space sectors). in each one there is a preview jpg to see what it looks like. The control files in the folder define that look.
Those control files could be modified or a new one added.
There are other files that define which of the playfields (planets and moons) are used around a star.
Also, these files only affect newly generated playfields, so a new game would need to be started.
NOTES:
1. It is beyond the scope of a simple forum to try to describe the exact procedure required!
2. Editing any of these files can cause SERIOUS issues if not done correctly
3. This needs to be done as scenario or a offline copy of the game or it will get overwritten on updates.
4. There might be a way with a game save editor. Not sure if any exist anymore.
Now, if I find a cool planet, I do a backup save game.

Have fun... Please note that any modifications of files on your part may be overwritten during the many patches/updates that are occurring at this time. Using the weather command is cheap and easy!
Note: The weather command takes time for effect. Be patient
Also, you don't seem to realize that EVERY.SINGLE.PLANET is procedurally generated and every planet of a given type will not be the same either from one system to the next or from one game to the next. The planet of your dreams may be out there in your current game.
This is an accurate - and suitably cautionary - summary of what would be involved, though it's missing some specifics (e.g. terrain.ecf). I'd like to double down on the caution! Modding these files is some of the most difficult work you can make for yourself.
There is also a planet and system editor/creator that could be considered (which I have never used). It's possible to both create custom planets and systems from scratch and rely upon the procedural generation for everything else. If you know exactly what you want, that may be an easier process.

a bit outdated but Spanj does explain how this works
the links to the editors are listed under the vid screen
be advised that planert editing might be a bit tricky because even biomes can be related to a poi (or vice versa) but if you manage to invest a bit of time you might can create the alien world of your dreams
i think the easiest part is setting the weather to the radiated green permanently
i will try this out myself when im done with my current build
still have the vision of a Lava-planet with a custom poi where lava flows out thru openings on the sides (decal gun animated texures with sound) and pretend i have geothermal plant of some sort
could be cool to make it match the color of my Shadow-Phoenix Shuttle
its still in my mind
For reference of what the planet looks like you can see the mod creator
jrandall's stuff.
He has the Merc-MX18 and Merc-MX10 with the planet's look in the background of those screenshots.
Thanks for your guy's suggestions, I'll mess around with the planet editor. Think I'll have to do 'toxic swamp irradiated fog' or something of the sort.
I appreciate all of your guy's responses.
