it can take a bunch of explosive charges. keep extra on your vehicle and access the wifi to grab more. can take up to 25 or 15, i assume it depends on variance of the damage of explosives.

got it!

I think I managed it with a 100+ Charges the Empire was willing to "Donate" tons of Materials for the construction of my next Base!

usually when the core is hidden behind something of high hit rate there is a switch somewhere that will take out the core or open a door to give access.

Can I point my cursor on the core (or some other faction-built component), press 'P', and get a Device listing on switches, levers, etc.?

By design, most player hand weapons do little if any damage to hull blocks and devices; some do ZERO damage, and for those you'll actually get a message telling you so (and to try something else). For the rest, they may do nonzero damage but you will have little feedback how much. Different weapons do more or less damage against various block materials.

The intention is that vessel- or base-mounted weapons should be far more effective against block targets, and they are (in varying degrees).

All of these behaviors can be modded in fine detail, per weapon, per material type.

Not unless you already own it.

Why on foot, by the way? You can get a lot of work down with a brace of 15 mm machine guns. A window is no obstacle. Neither is a xenosteel block, given enough ammo.

was in a story mission & had to do it on foot.

As a side note, you can use your multi-tool to determine how much damage you have done to the block.

It looks like a mission I haven't done !
Vanilla game or Scenario ?
Which story mission ?
What is the name of that POI ?

By the way, you can spawn vessel in POI.

Use gatlings. Some late game weapons like rocket launchers work better than shotguns, but really, 6 gatlings will make short work of any block. If you know where the core is you can just bore it out from outside the POI. Pop your core in, and loot away without spawning a single mob.
