POI salvaging
Does anyone else but me salvage POIs block by block, as opposed to exploiting SI to "de-integrate" them and pick up the pieces? If so, why am I the only one angry about the nerfing of the multitools' rates of fire that prevents us from speeding up the salvage process? The ROFs are now locked at a half second, but I used to mod them to one fifth of that (the earlier default was 0.3). Just because I prefer to salvage block-by-block doesn't mean that I also prefer to do it as slowly as possible. What once took me no more than two hours (before version 10) to salvage large POIs now takes me quite a few more; I'm now tempted to exploit that SI feature. Just because I enjoy block-by-block salvaging doesn't mean that I want to spend ALL DAY doing nothing but that.

Does anyone know what the rate of return is when using that SI destabilize feature?

I'll do either, depending on what I'm after. For instance, hardened steel plates are useful, but you can get back sathium ingots from dropping whole hardened/combat steel blocks in a deconstructor. Generally I'll just drop in a core, nab the best bits, and leave the rest. I tend to worry more about lost time than lost loot.

My understanding is the rate of return for debris is fairly terrible. Like, survival tool terrible.

I haven't seen how the multiturret is functioning lately. I'll have to investigate.

What I do is drop in a core, set it to private and use a T2 Multitool, set for retrieve block. Instant gratification that way. Just drop the whole blocks in a deconstructor.

And how many hours does that take you to complete the breakdown of a drone base or Abandoned POI? How many favorite albums do you have to queue-up to get through it?

I hate being arbitrarily deprived now of what I did in a tolerable time period in version 9.

I've just finished a little experiment. With SI disabled as it normally is for me, I dropped a core into a DSE-2 Mid POI, saved a backup of the game, and then proceeded to raise (with a console command) it into the air and disassemble and deconstruct it completely, saving the materials separately from everything else to keep an accurate accounting.

Then I loaded the backup save, enabled SI, and proceeded to try and salvage the whole thing, trying to recover as much of the broken pieces as was possible. It turned out to be IMpossible to recover all of them, because SI is just as broken now as when I first began disabling it [so much for Eleon perfecting core game elements before moving on, eh?]. Pieces would break off from above and the interior and never even fall to the ground, making it impossible to locate them in time even in godmode. I had half hoped that the whole thing would come crashing down at once, since after all I had suspended the whole thing in mid-air... but I have never used this mechanism since it debuted and have kept SI disabled for years and didn't know what to expect; that didn't happen, of course.

I raced to recover as much as possible, and I don't think that I missed too much. Final accounting, for the major materials:

Material | The Hard Way | The Easy Way | | (100% recov.)| (???%) | ----------------------+--------------+--------------+ Steel Plate | 28536 | 31346 | Hardened Steel Plate | 126 | 97 | Glass Plate | 1726 | 99 | Mechanical Components | 401 | 203 | Electronics | 250 | 310 | Optical Fiber | 142 | 120 | Computer | 87 | 13 | Motor | 32 | 15 | Energy Matrix | 27 | 5 | ----------------------+--------------+--------------+
As you can see the percentages are all over the map depending on the material/component, and most likely vary dramatically from one instance to another. Truly oddly, the recovery is MORE THAN 100% for some items, as if you had modded your multitool to have a ReturnFactor greater than 1.0.

I don't know what to make of this result, but I think that I'll keep doing it the hard way.

VT - I never knew the SI method was an exploit. Always just been the way to teardown a POI. Of course, to manage the process, I slice the target into chunks I can grab when they fall. Very satisfying to shoot the final block on a section and hit F on it before it hits the ground and breaks apart

Big B - Try your hardened plate in a deconstructor - You'll get ingots and steel. Always been that way for me, so don't know when it changed.

I take devices that seem useful 1 by 1 and then collapse the building to get plates and other stuff fast, but only at start, later its pointless, you can get ores from asteroids ridiculously fast with mining cv and smelt them with furnaces

It's not (THE NOUN) "an exploit". It's a feature that can be (THE VERB) "exploited".

This is the confusion that happens when there's no oversight of language evolution.

Sorry to interrupt, but what is SI?

Structural Integrity. It's the game's horrid attempt at structural physics for blocks. It can't be trusted, and I keep it disabled until Eleon bothers to make the attempt to fix it (it's been years). There is a console command to control it, and I use a [RCtrl+F1] console shortcut to fire that command off every time I load a saved game.

Learn to cut out the base of walls and buildings so they fall down and then just pick up the chunks. I have 100k steel/ hardened steel at least and it took me minutes to get by using this technique

Those are interesting numbers, VT. I wasn't playing during 9. I've been tempted to roll back to something before shields,W/V and simplified food to see what some of the old-timers seem to be nostalgic about.

It wasn't entirely The GOOD Olde Days. There have been changes for the better, like the new thrust and torque mechanics. Eleon unfortunately is all over the map when it comes to making what resembles progress.
