Is there a way to turn steel plates back into iron ore?
I have started creation of a capital vessel, but decided to use a blueprint instead, I can't just create a projection of the ship and add things in, but instead it requires the ores directly with no actual knowledge of how big the ship will be and nothing else.............My questions is this: Is there a way to reverse the process to make steel plates back into iron ore? Or do I have to mine to just get more iron ore?? Also how do I cancel creation of the blueprint, can I get the iron back if I don't want to create that particular blueprint?

I think, no.

You need them for lot of things, like steel-blocks, tubes, RCS, Ammonition box?
If you really have too much and use the factory (with blueprints) You can use them there. Only there they will just be counted as Iron as far I know.

I beleive if it is a blueprint you are trying to use then you can place the steel plates in the factory and it will automatically break it down for the blueprints resource requirements.

thanks , these blueprints look sick, theres just a massive amount of elements they require like woah. Theres no way to back out of a blueprint to get the iron back though right?

If you put needed equipment and whatnot into a BP (like thrusters for a ship), it will reduce the build time, to a lesser extent if you put in the components they need (electronics, steel plates, etc), it will also reduce build time a little bit.
So if you add steel plates, it will reduce the build time of stuff like steel blocks the BP might have. If you add in Electronics, it will slightly reduce the build time due to it not needing to make those components first.

If you know of all the stuff the BP needs equipment wise (thrusters, generators, etc), and pre-make those things and stuff them into the BP, it will greatly cut down on the build time.
One time I stuffed all the stuff needed for an SV BP I made myself, and got the build time down to 1 second. Yes, I mean 'everything'
As in I made all the parts and equipment needed, including windows and lights, then stuff in the steel blocks to top things off. So it did not need to 'make' anything, since I basically provided it with everything needed.

Of note, you can even stuff weapons and tools into the Factory.
Handy if you end up with a few Cargo containers full of spare weapons and tools after exploring and looting a number of POIs.

Once items/materials are put into the Factory, it stays in there.
So it's not a good place to 'store' materials.

This is not technically true. It doesn't care what materials the blueprint needs, it cares how long the added materials take. To test this, take a relatively large blueprint, and add a stack of reactors (do this in a throwaway game, and cheat the reactors in).

If you take a blueprinted vehicle or base, deconstruct it with the multitool, and then throw all the resulting components into the blueprint factory, you'll be able to rebuild it in one second. Tested it.

Throw it into a blueprint

I've often used the stuff looted from drones to feed my blueprints. As they are built items - not raw ore or ingots - my build times are always 1 second. Using Ingots = standard build time.

Scoob.
