Report a translation problem
For instance, putting a generator into a blueprint that requires one, will add the appropriate metals AND lower the time.
This works for other components as well, as long as the blueprint requires the items. (Steel Plates, Nanotubes, Medical Bay, etc etc etc.)
PS: You put the device/item(s) into the same little box you put the metal :)

Or you could start your save up as a Local COOP and then log out and the game would run as a server and time will pass even if you close the game down completely. Just don't close the server window or turn of your PC
Make a few mini bases with beds and with a HV or especially a SV just travel to the dark side of the Planet.
Entering orbit and flying around the planet and back into the atmosphere is the fastest way to spam a Bed Time Jump. Just make sure you turn off the SV/HV before you sleep!
