Joining containers
How do you join containers together to get larger storage capacity? The button to join containers seems to join the container to my inventory more often than do what I want. I'm missing some obvious UI clue, please can somebody explain how to make super-large containers? What to container controllers do, is there non-terse description for people with parser blockages?

So I could place a controller in between 4 containers and get the mega-storage I am really looking for... Hmmm I had not tried hard enough. I had placed the controller on the assumption it did not have to be touching, I also got miss-guided by the modular containers which spawns 3 or 4 pallets of storage, that was cool, weird, but cool.
Thanks

No the containers have nothing to do with it. The Controller is its own Container. The extender will extend it. We added a few extra slot spaces to it but the slot space is still limited. The Extender only extends the containerController's Volume Cap

Confused. I am obviously still missing something basic.

gives me about 18*8 slots
and so does this

I'm not "joining" the containers or I am placing the wrong block down. Why do I instead get the wifi active thing with the yellow selection happen? I am obviously doing this incorrectly, but it's about 5 minutes of trying non logical combinations that is not helping explain what the original design intent with containers was to me.

You are placing the wrong block down. There are container controllers and container extensions and there are just plain containers. Plain containers are individual, in and of themselves. They hold just so much. Container controllers act as an extendable container. You can add extensions to make them hold a whole lot more. In the pictures above, you can see 1 controller with 3 extensions. You interact with the controller itself, which will display the space/volume that you've gained by placing the extensions. Also, don't confuse the wifi interactions with the placement of container controllers. Wifi only makes it possible to interact with containers and/or container controllers wirelessly instead of having to stand in front of them and press the P key.

pic #2 is incorrect, yes. I shared it to prove that I have tried a few combinations (proof of homework so to speak :-) ).

In pic #1 I have a controller and 3 extensions around it. Is that not how it is supposed to work?
I know this is all beta and so on, but I got no extra space - people keep saying "whole lot more", exactly how much more and how many can I add? From my results it looks like just I only get double volume, and am unable to join the other 2 container-extensions to the controller. Please provide screenshot of what I am supposed to have done. I'm not getting the UI result or feedback interaction I was hoping for, so that's a bit embarrassing for someone.

I'm a bit worried, seeing using the word "controller", and "extension" in a one-to-many or other way around relationship. But, I am assuming by common usage convention 1 controller many extensions? How many are allowed?

I'm a little confused as to why the controller (which is not working anyway for me) does not work with regular containers, it's unclear what purpose or use case that creates, so it feels unnecessary to create distinctions when none is clear and really fragments the problem-space for someone trying to discover the workings. I see a button that says "join to container on right", how does it know what is to the right, it only seems to let me join to a fuel, ore or oxygen container, so that's confusing me at the moment, that I cannot select the nearby extension? I want from the list. Or does just touching do it?

When u fill up the last slots in the ContainerController u get a new row. 4times.

The slots arnt unlimited. The Volume cap can be increased

Why the controller doesnt work with a normal container since it has nothing to do with it. The Controller IS a own container. It has nothing to do with the normal containers. U either use the normal container wich ar limited to a certain volume cap. Or u use a controller with an extender and u can increase the volume cap.

The slots stay the same. No way u can increase them its hard coded and wont change. U just get 4 extra rows with a controller when the other slots are full. Just 4 rows nothing more. Its dynamic grid, it wont show UNLESS the other slots are full

Read the FAQ guids on our forum. Its all explained there

Just looking at your personal inventory you don't really need to worry about container controllers and extensions as you have weight limits turned off. Just use regular containers and you should be fine since weight doesn't matter.

Container controller and extension give you more weight in essence.

I made it clear that I was confused, but nobody actually explained the entire mechanics.

1. I did not know the details about this volume logistics feature and the yaml setting before I started this thread. The game start menu really should have exposed the option, because as far I understand you have to set it before you start a game? is that correct?

2. This video actually explains it far better than anyone has managed to explain it above https://youtu.be/2x_mGKHuf-8?t=1322

Big thanks to Dycart.

i have a question still. i understand how the f4 and wireless stuff works. BUT can u extend harvester modules/boxes with the container controller/extensions? bc i can get the container extensions to make a "container controller" bigger. but do i need to connect the harvest box to a "container controller" or just put it next to an extension to expand it? or can u not expand the harvest boxes? bc they have such small storage i always end up in my device menu spamming from the harvest box to all my other storage manually.

hold my hand like a little child

i watched the video by dycart too but he doesnt cover my question. just shows extenders attached to a "container controller"

There are three types of container controllers. the container controller, for being a... container, the container controller (ore and wood) for harvesting, drilling and the multiturrets, and container controller (ammo) for the ammo of your ship (or base).

Weight limits don't affect the number of slots the container has. You still only have a fixed number of slots in a container whether you have weight limits on or off.

Controller gives more weight, but also gives more slots in accordance with the weight limits as you add more extenders.
