Noob - Finding Iron Ore?

Hi,

Im new to the game, started on the easy planet multiplayer.

Im really struggling to find any ores......i know where theres a deposit, but it right next to a drone base.

Ive seen videos of people using the ore scanner, but whenever i have it on my toolbar and dig down, i find nothing.

What am i missing here? :S

The Ore scanner needs to be in the inventory and not the tool bar.
Also you can crush stones to get a random amount of ore.

Ahh so having it on the 1-10 toolbar does nothing :D and i didnt know about crushing stones, just crush them in the constructor? thanks for the help!

I don't know much about the MP side of the game, but I think what the above poster means by stones is rocks (kinda large boulders) You can right-click when your drill is active and choose "Stone Removal". It should take 10 or less shots. Some rocks give you nothing, but usually you'll get a random ore from... iron, copper, silicon, and cobalt.

Personally, I'd suggest an SP game on Easy to get used to how things work. ;)

Yes, exactly. Also you can build a HV with the harvester module (and cargo box) to "harvest" the rocks. It destroys the stones and adds the ores to the cargo box. Works also for trees to get wood.

Plus the harvester is the easiest way to level up, you can kill NPCs with it.

You can try designing your own hover vessel, or you can subscribe to a blueprint on the Steam Workshop and then build it in your factory in-game once you've reached level 3 and collected the necessary resources.

Note that when killing animals for food, you will have to manually loot the animals. Any rocks or trees that you harvest will be deposited into your harvest box automatically though.

Here's a starter HV that I designed, but there's tons of them on the workshop.

So I'm pretty much a noob too but here's a few things to help:
1. If you're on multiplayer the majority of the ore may have been mined.
2. Do all of your mining with your Drone. Press F5 and the drone pops up and you don't have to go into the mine. Just fly your drone into the blue outlines and the outlines get thicker as you get closer to the actual ore. Make sure your drill is in resource mode.
3. To get iron from rocks it has to be the rocks laying around above ground I think, and you use your drill but change it to Stone Removal mode. You can get various ores like this but not in much quantity.
