Server uses positional data, if you disconnect , server no longer gets your position, yet CV is moving with other players in it, should never disconnect from a moving ship.
If its just dinner, say an hour, feed the character and let him sit in passenger chair , he will consume at a slow rate and lasts around an hour like that before hunger is an issue, assuming CV has air.
Or agree with mates, CV doesnt move when one of you is not online.
Always keep a tiny cheap SV ready to spawn from BP, and always carry fuel cells on the character.
Just an idea: Make a "cryo chamber" or something like that - known from other survival games in space.. So when "one" disconnects from the server, he has to enter the cryo chamber. That cryo chamber is then locked to that person only. So a cryo chamber can only hold one person. That should prevent spawning on top of another player etc, as it would happen, if "one" just was in the chair when disconnecting, and someone else is sitting in the chair when connecting.......
I hope it makes sense :)
