No Helmet

Hello, I haven't played in a long time. I have started 5 new games today, and each game I spawn with out a helmet. Is this expected? I do not remember having no helmets in any of my previous older games. Thanks

You don't receive an exosuit of any kind at the start, and an exosuit is required to have a helmet (and shoulder light). You need to research and craft the light armor exosuit (and an Armor Locker to equip it) or loot the same or better.

The shoulder light is irritating if the camera is facing sharply up or down, since the illumination is only directed forward. It's something not entirely unique to this game, though I don't know what technical reason there could be for not having the light actually follow the camera/gaze, as if the light source was on the helmet.

To be fair it is called a shoulder light and not a helmet light. I would expect it to follow my body and not my head then.
