How do I build a floor?
Seriously I cant manage to get the block at the same level as the ground, is my base really going to need to be a full block off the ground? the wreckages around all have ground level blocks. there was no tutorial that came up, so I'm at a loss

i've had others recommend that to me. Honestly, not worth my time trying. this design decision exists only to waste time, so I'm not going to bother with it.

If all you do is bash every attempt to help you, then you will not get very far. The system currently is working as intended, because it does so for me. Stop whining and do something about it, rather than blaming everything else.

Hmmm, it's conceptually a problem yes. I tend to use blueprints, because blueprints let you do this kind of thing because you can move them... here's a thought though

build your entire base 2 meter above the ground where the game engine let's you build easily.... then in the console run this magical incantation
setposition <base-id> y-2
, which will lower the base nice and cleanly a full block down into the ground.

I am sure there are other ways to accomplish same, but I have regularly done this to get an effect I want, it might mean re-excavating your basement though, but I like basements, so I'm pretty good at excavating them.

Since the ground is rarely level to the construction grid, I usually need to build at least a two block deep foundation anyway.

As above, you can spawn in blueprints and sink them to the depth you desire. Many of the prefab POIs will clear any dirt that they are sunk into, so you don't have to dig it out. You can also modify your own blueprint files so they do this.

If you insist on building in survival mode, consider making a two tile deep foundation slab in creative that you can spawn in and build on.

Otherwise, if a real building isn't on a slab, it will be on supports or pylons. You can do this in game also, build supports and put the floor above ground. Construct a cosmetic "skirt" around the edge, and stairs up to the entrance.

You can also raise the ground with the drill tool to make it flush with the edge of your building.

I did do something, i returned a game with bad mechanics.

So cheat because the game doesn't work as it should? Lmao

I love the "the system currently is working as intended because it works for me...". That's why we are in so much ♥♥♥♥ this year, because someone took actions that "worked for them" and had no regard for the rest of the planet. Nobody ever got anywhere by not breaking a few eggs, but we need to be ready to own up, and to say sorry and then understand where the viewpoint really originates.

For me, building underground is a thing I have accepted is hard to implement in a way that would please people, the camera control in Unity Engine might be a limiting factor, if you don't ask, you don't know.

I don't think of using console commands to edit the world as cheating, but I don't like the way it breaks immersion. Even so not everyone is really wanting immersion alone, there are always concerns to balance, the game is 2 games rolled into one, a creative sandbox, which does work quite well, and a survival game, which lacks some finesse. The multiplayer aspects only focus on the later game mode, which is consequently more feature rich, but also more bug-rich. Not sure that building below ground is a very common mechanic in games, at least not in games I've played, so I've often used setposition y-2 type command to make things look good, not many games let you do that. Would like to see an example of a game that does this below-surface building to understand the UX given. Youtube links welcome.

It's not that hard, space engineers did it. And i using console commands is considered cheating. I agree it's not really cheating when doing it this way, but i mean i shouldn't need cheats to get it working. I'm also not trying to build underground, I'm trying to place blocks into the ground for a foundation like space engineers. I wouldn't mind this so much if the blocks were smaller, but having to build my foundation above ground so the base starts at head height is not exactly elegant.

You can mine out a small hole into the ground and place the block in there, making sure it's atleast a few cm/in above the ground.

Doing that for every block is a waste of time

Well it's not any different in other voxel games such as minecraft, it's just something you do once and never again. I made a base with an elevated floor once and doesn't look to bad if you make a pretty staircase with a porch and whatnot

Except in minecraft you can use the dirt. In empyrion it's just a time waste

thats not totally true. mining dirt with a vehicular tool or with the hand drill will give you crushed stone which you can refine into any of the basic ores or into stone dust.. Digging with your survival tool is, indeed, a waste of time. You're not supposed to do it.

And, really, the game is more about mobility. Building ground bases won't really help you do any of the things you need to do, like travel between systems and raid hostile ships and bases. You just build a ground base as a fun vanity project. And, for that, you really are better off building it in creative then spawning it in.

When you spawn in from blueprints, as people have said many times above, you can sink it into the ground to the exact point you want it. This isnt really an issue, but if it does kill the game for you that's cool enough. Have a good day.

Some people play without the "magical" delivery transporter arriving magically, and zooming off again without rescuing you. It is an avenue.

Well you could just skip straight to building a CV, has the added bonus of not attracting drone attacks

i didnt care to play enough to do those. and I shouldn't need blueprints to fix an issue that should be non existent. no offense, but in my opinion the game is worth spending time doing janky fixes.
