Factory Build Time Disconnect
I don't understand how this factory timer works.

If I have less than 2 hours remaining, and I go to sleep for 8 hours... Why is the item not done?

On my last attempt, I think about an hour and a half passed on the build timer for what was supposed to be an 8 hour sleep cycle.

The time is real time not game time.

exactly, NOT game time.

Punishing the player for using the factory because they are not good at designing their own ships.

It would have taken time to design and build a ship

The above statements are false.

I started with 2 hours left on build time, slept for 8 and took 1.5 hours off the build time.
Slept another 8 hours and the remaining 30 mins passed.

The factory item was completed in about 3 sleep cycles total. ...which took all of about 20 seconds in real time.

Those statements are true. You are mistaken. Sleeping in a tent or a bed removes no time. It is real life time. Not Game time. Are you in SP or an MP server? If you are in SP and time was taken off because you slept in game then that is a bug. I tested it to make sure.

I'm not mistaken, it does advance the factory time.

On a server, sure I can see why the time has to be real time and the sleep cycle is ignored. I haven't played on a MP server, but I doubt sleep is even relevant since you likely have no impact on time/daylight whatsoever. Essentially, "sleeping" on a server has been disabled and there is no time acceleration.

But in the SP game, where sleeping is not disabled and *does* have an impact on time, the factory build time advances. Not sure what the rate is (not 1:1) almost seems to be on a curve and more time passes depending on how long it might take to build the item.

In my case, I had a 4hr factory build time, which I accelerated to spawn in 3 sleep cycles (maybe 20 seconds in RT), but it should have only required one 8hr sleep cycle to complete the 4hr factory task.

In single player sleeping does advance the factory time. I use it to take off time on lengthy construction items. It's not 1:1 as XL stated, but it does advance construction time.

Sleeping advances the factory for 8 *game* hours, which corresponds to less "real" hours. So you're both correct.

The factory uses real time, so if you sleep for 8 game hours, that time is taken off the factory at the equivalent ratio.

That doesn't make any sense to me... but alas, I am dense.

Tell me about this Real Time to Game Time ratio you elude to? What is the "equivalent ratio"?

Again... 20 seconds RT, for three 8hr game time sleep cycles was required to run off about 3-4hrs of factory build time.

Edit: I think I follow what you're saying now. If game time runs at maybe 4x speed, you would need 2 x 8hr sleep cycles at 4x time to equate to 4hrs at 1x time. 8*1/4 = 2hr real time.

Not exactly sure what the default accel factor is though and I guess that is also an adjustable variable that people can set. I haven't messed with my default setting.

Really?

Never built your own ship in creative then blueprinted it?

I think there is something wrong with the way the game is calculating the times for sleeping and away from playfield. An intermittent bug. I have noticed that being gone from playfield for 8+ hours of real time then returning to have only part of my garden grown. Sometimes its fine and sometimes its messed up, sometimes it is different plants that didnt grow.

I notice this discrepency too with crops, for me it seems most often that Spice is the culprit that isn't fully grown, while other crops are almost always functioning as intended.

Plant fibre has also behaved this way, on top of me reading somewhere the x2 Plant Fibre yeild is supposed a "bug" even though the tooltip reflects that numeric value.

So I think it's strange a bug would affect tool tips.....

I`ve got 1900 hours and never built a ship of any kind. Doesn`t make me a bad guy. Does it? ;-)

Nah... but also irrelevant to the OP. I'd just ignore any mentioning of it.
